The frustrated claim, “All we do is rote learn” is the common tale of all the students who struggle with the machinery that is Indian education. It is almost impossible to list everything that is flawed in our system of educating the future of this country. But where do we start to improve it? By actively spreading awareness.
How many of us have felt and actively realised the futility of at least half of the things that we learn or used to learn in our classrooms? And for how many of us, did this realisation result into a state of disinterest and detachment from the course? 90% of the education is theoretical. The problem lies in the gulf between the pursuits of a student and the rigorous, uncomfortable and stoic ‘courses’ that the system follows. Studies show that about 25% of students, which is one fourth of the entire student feel that Indian education is not practical.
It’s important to link the classroom to real life. Theory to Practicality. It’s even more important to really ‘educate’ which is a seldom occurrence in our classrooms. Instead of burdening students with mounts of books to ‘learn’, it’s important to sow the seeds of actuality, morals, good character and discipline.
Discourses not the subject press that if an amalgamation of all of these aspects is used to l educate the children, we feel, that it may bring a stark change in their attitude and how they perceive studies. Who knows, In a house, years and years hence, we may even get to hear a child be excited about a test at school.

Poster Making Competition
Poster making competition conducted by Parkshala in association with Bharat Petroleum ||
The route to the development of a healthy mind and body can only be trodden with Hygiene. No nation can prosper if we don't make a conscious effort to educate them and inculcate the practice of following both external and internal hygiene.
"When there is both inner and outer cleanliness, it approaches Godliness" and the Mahatma was definitely not wrong when he assimilated spiritual actualisation with hygiene.
The first step, however, is to analyse how the youth of our country perceive hygiene. We collaborated with Ms. Anjali from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) to conduct an interactive session of Poster Making Competition with our children.
The theme of the competition was "What does cleanliness mean to you?". It is a Govt. Of India initiative that takes place from 1st-15th July every year across all government offices and organizations. The children were super excited to depict what cleanliness means to them.
Quite intriguing and fresh thoughts were beautifully portrayed by our children. One theme which was common in all the posters was a strong aspiration to create a clean and healthy India.
All the participants received hygiene kits and umbrellas while the winners received a little goodie bag too!
These little ones have posed an important question before us. What does cleanliness really mean? Is it only restricted to books and speeches? Are we willing to go that extra mile and build a conducive and clean India for the generations to come?
