TO EVERY PARENT AND EXPECTING
I don't know how old you are, but if you are a parent and/or expecting another/first child, read below.
Your child WILL get mad at you at some point. Remember the times you got mad at your parents/guardians. If you can’t, let me give you a basic idea on what it is like.
You give someone all the trust you have. In return, they get mad at you about things you don’t understand/can’t relate to. You feel broken, on the verge of crying or already crying. The person you are arguing with calls you childish, ignoring the fact that you ARE a child. You feel angry. You try to show it without making things worse because anger is a feeling that is perfectly fine to feel. But the other side of the argument doesn’t seem to understand.
I need you to see that anger is an emotion just like happiness or sadness. You feel it at every stage of your life. Remember that your child is just as human as you are. We mess up, we make mistakes. You do too.
Your child is allowed to complain. Yes, people have it worse than us but that shouldn’t stop us from complaining. Look, I’m not saying that we have the right to think we have it the worst, I’m saying that our problems are worth complaining, and that we can complain. YOUR CHILD SHOULDN’T HAVE TO HANDLE EVERYTHING ALONE. LET US TELL YOU THE STUFF WE ARE GOING THROUGH
So the summary of this text is that your child should be allowed to feel, complain and express their emotions freely without judgement or pressure.
LET US FEEL
LET US EXPRESS WHAT WE FEEL
LET US BE IMPERFECT
WE ARE JUST AS HUMAN AS YOU ARE
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
