First time in Thailand: Hippie towns, 7-Eleven nostalgia, and an offer to join the Padaung tribe 🌿🎸
Our first trip to Thailand, and we are absolutely in love. Hisako said it feels like stepping back into Japan 30 years ago—especially with 7-Elevens everywhere, stocked with Japanese snacks and beer. Maybe it’s because 95% of the people are Buddhist, but the hospitality is just incredible.
The highlight of our journey was the North, specifically Mae Hong Son province. In the hippie town of Pai, we rented vintage bicycles for 50 baht (we even found a Japanese one for Hisako!).
We visited a Padaung village, where refugees from Myanmar have lived since the 90s. The locals welcomed Hisako with so much warmth that they actually tried to convince her to join the tribe!
