(eyes emoji at your tags about a cosmic horror space lighthouse story) I am INTRIGUED
it's a story i've had around in one form or another for years, and right now i'm sort of in the middle of reworking it again so i can't share a lot of concrete details just yet.
but the general idea is “found family of eldritch monsters as protagonists, flying around on a spaceship in a universe that’s just sort of real fucked up, encountering all sorts of wild and weird shit while trying to figure out what the actual bad guys are doing. (”bad guy” being not synonymous with weird monster, as evidenced by the protags being neck-deep in eldritch shit, and some of them being eldritch shit themselves. the actual bad guys, in fact, are something that presents itself as pure and good and incorruptible who are out to “fix” the “corruption” in this world, while carrying out their own motives behind the scenes)”
sometimes the weird shit they encounter is something like a region of space that’s more actively messed up than most, to the point where trying to fly a vessel through it is suicide or much worse, so stations were set up near the perimeter to warn people away from it and also try and research what’s even going on there. one of the characters in the story grew up on one of those stations, one that got hit by a disaster a little while before the other characters come across them.
