The New Zealand evergreen Ozothamnus leptophyllus 'Wards Silver' (Tauhinu) adds some great texture to the Winter Garden of Cambridge Botanic Garden, UK. The species is a native shrub in coastal areas, especially sand dunes. It has small silver-green leaves with fine silver hairs beneath and silver-white stems. It thrives in a sunny location and will tolerate temperatures down to -12ºC.

'Smell-shrub with slender leaves'. Originally described as Calea leptophylla in 1786, followed by 200 years of argument about whether it should be in Cassinia or Ozothamnus.
Another paper daisy. This particular species is endemic to New Zealand, where is thrives in coastal to subalpine shrubland and scrub whereever other ground cover has been removed. Erosion gutters and avalanche chutes are ideal. Tolerates most soil and salinity types.
Other species in the genus are found in New Zealand, Australia, and New Caledonia.
