Hotel #1 was in the heart of Asoke, the neighborhood at the heart of Bangkok. Super vibrant. Also a little seedy. Not a bad description of the hotel itself.

On the one hand, the room had a nice overlook onto the deck of the restaurant (and, yeah, some satellite dishes), while the roof had an infinity pool with a pretty great view.

On the other hand, there was a bar called Bronx across the street (which kind of defeats the purpose of leaving America). And that awesome pool? In addition to the clear water and infinity view across Asoke, it also had a clear view of a gargantuan neon Hooters sign and a day-drunk tourist.
