I can feel for Sky. My mom gave birth to me when she was twelve, we don’t really have mother and daughter relationship. She is more like an older sister than she is mom, sometimes I forget that she was the one who gave birth to me. Sky and their mother’s dynamic kinda hits home. She is the only mother I known and when I looked to my friends’ mothers on what they are like… it’s like having a cool older friend or sister than a mom. Personally, I don’t think Sky’s mom neglected Sky on purpose or out of spite, she was a kid alone who is not mature enough to raise a baby when she is a kid herself, she got things she wanna do that does not involve raising a kid. I was lucky enough my grandparents was the one raised me, the fact that my ‘sister’ is actually my mom is just a weird fact that I know and don’t care.

Yeah I very much based my creation of Sky and their relation to Mallory on that type of dynamic. I have a lot of sympathy for her because it’s not like it is with Pru and Crowny, Pru wasn’t a child, she also wasn’t raising her kids alone she chose to neglect pretty much all her kids for whatever reason she thought of
Mal, not only was too young to know how to be a mother but also was entirely alone (didn’t even have the father there to help didn’t have her own parents no one, she even gave birth alone) in a time where it was stigmatized socially to have premarital sex as a woman and worse of all to have a child out of wedlock. Even if she had tried to abort, it was so dangerous she could’ve died of that
She doesn’t hate Sky, she tries her best to love them. I wanted to create a dynamic that’s different from Pru or Maria. It’s more fascinating to have a mother who loves her kid the only way she knows how but not properly, and she can’t quite figure it out. It’s a mixture of love, resentment, guilt. Maybe it would’ve been different if she had had them in 1924 instead of 1914
Of course once again, these are my own opinions, you can think whatever you want about Mallory and you can have your Sky hate her for not raising them or being a real mother. I think both Mallory and Sky are valid in their feelings towards each other
