Over-stressing is something we probably all do from time to time. I know that when I over think things because I deal with anxiety through autism, I become more anxious, my physical symptoms increase, then panic sets in.
But over-stressing, if it’s allowed to continue, can result in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) a condition where we continually worry about bad things. Mental processes may also be affected by over-stressing, such as us being anxiousness, irritable and impulsive.
Because you’re over-stressing, it is easy to lose patience and tolerance around those you’re normally tolerant of. But when it comes to us over-stressing, it is important we think about and understand our triggers. Make a list of the things that act as a trigger and continue to work on those.
There are things we can do to help ourselves. Avoid things like caffeine, alcohol and nicotine, take more time out to go for a walk, try relaxation or breathing techniques, keep a stress diary. Try to get more sleep and turn your computer, or mobile off an hour before you go to bed.
Try to manage your time better so that you’re more organised and remember to keep your circle positive. Having the right people around you is important. We can over-stress with the wrong people in our lives.
