I remember there was an article a while back asking why there was a lack of interest in joining figure skating as sport among young people. Um, gee I wonder why?
Please remember that skaters are not responsible for the scores they receive and therefore do not deserve any hate for decisions made beyond their control.
āKamila's and Daria's scores are whack. Sure it's a domestic competition, but what the hell!ā
āIāve always been a casual fan, knowing near to nothing about the technicalities, scores and so on. Then I found a group of people who were more into it, and I tried to have more of a thorough approach, but each time it was a constant lamenting over underscoring vs. overscoring and it felt heavy. I decided to go back to my ignorant ways of watching skating, where I cheer for all skaters and am/be less bitter.ā

if you factor in how the inflated TES cancels out the lowballed PCS, i think the ladies at nhk were scored generally correctly. yall are just too accustomed to russian and american inflation lmao
that being said, comparing rostelecom scores to nhk scores makes me want to tear my hair out. in what world do trusova and tuktamysheva deserve higher/similar PCS than all the japanese ladies (and young you of korea) at nhk????? šš
About overscoring and all that.
Real hard Nathan stans aside, is there really anyone out there blind to what the ISU is doing? Theyāre not trying to hide even a little anymore, so.
Donāt get me wrong, Nathan IS a good skater, a great jumper, heās just not a complete FIGURE skater yet. Which is the name of the sport so unless you go and change the very name itself, youāll keep having the same issues.
Skaters arenāt blind either. Obv Nathan is happy about the score, but boy himself is saying that components wise, heās nowhere near where Yuzu is. Nathan isnāt blind, he knows his sport. He knows his PCs are way too high because jumps aside, right now his programs are, well, kind of empty. I really think he means it when he says Yuzu can do everything he does better than him. Because, as a skater whoās been doing this for the better part of his life, itās the truth. Transitions? Better. Skating skills? Better. And so on.Ā
Did you see the height of their respective 4lz? Nathanās peak was around 65cm, Yuzuās was 85cm. (at 25 azghr(tyezrethn boy is going to land a 4A thatās 1m high and we are going to die, bye world.) Do I need to compare their 3A?Ā
Right now the ISU is holding onto Nathan because heās a 20 year-old kid from the USA aka what theyāve always dreamed about having as their mascott. Also, Nathanās reaction was so...lukewarm? The way Raf was holding his hand high up like he was some kind of boxer was... pathetic, to put it lightly. Iām not saying Nathan doesnāt take some kind of advantage of that, because letās face it, heās in it to win it. But you know what this weekend taught me? I donāt give a fuck anymore. Iāve made my peace with how corrupt all this is and wonāt blink at scores anymore. As long as Yuzuās happy with his skate, comes out stronger after every performance, Iām happy too.Ā
Also, how funny is it that with a 4lz in the SP and shameless GOEs, Yuzu is STILL the WR holder? Even funnier, the 225+ 5 quads FS score under the new system is BARELY higher than Helsinkiās 223+ 4 quads FS under the old system, and only 6 points higher than GPF 2015 219+ with... 3 quads. Donāt even get me started on how 335 and 330 because I start laughing everytime. 2 more quads for only 5 points difference total when at the time Yuzu was only jumping 4S and 4T. The ISU works hard, but Yuzuās ankles work harder. Sorry bitches. It truly is laughable.
Yuzuās comment about how figure skating isnāt a jumping competition makes me think that maybe heās started to realize what the ISU is doing? Idk. Boy is trolling so hard when he says that the gap in scores doesnāt bother him since heās already won competitions this way too. The real tell will be when he truly skates CLEAN and they have no reason to underscore him, doing so will be so blatantly cheating it might just make him snap for good. I mean he already went for the kill at SC when he said OUT LOUD and STRAIGHT TO THE CAMERAĀ āi hope the rotation was okay for the toeā, who knows what the heck heāll say the day heās done with the ISU bullshit.
The ISU must be losing their mind, trying to find a way to get him to quit. As much as I adore Yuzu and want him to keep skating, I canāt wait for the ISU to lose all their damn money the day he retires. Overscored skaters might help them for a season, but it wonāt make people stick around and travel from across the world. As much as I think theyāre hoping that theyāll get rid of the problematic part of the FS fandom, aka Fanyus, theyāre just so certain people will stay and keep financing them.. itās pathetic. Really pathetic. Sorry not sorry. I love figure skating as a sport, it's actually my favorite one alongside tennis, but i didn't spend that much money to go to Torino to watch FS live. I did it to see Yuzu. So.
They can try all they want to put higher and higher numbers, but as time passes, numbers fade. Scores are forgotten and what sticks is the performance. Seimei will live on forever, Hope and Legacy too. I mean I could name every single one of his programs because letās face it, theyāll all stay engraved in everybodyās minds. R&J? Chopin? LGC? Phantom GPF14? Pistol pose in PW, that swagger at 18? People watch the Swan and cry. There is something to remember from every single one of his performances.Ā
I keep showing footage of Yuzu to a friend who knows nothing about FS and she once said that you can see hisĀ ābeautiful soulā when he skates.
Thatās the power he holds the moment he steps on the ice, and thatās why, despite all the ISUās efforts to erase everything heās ever done, his legacy will live on forever. Heās touched so many souls, too many for his achievements to be forgotten. Ever.
obviously not someone who knows a ton about figure skating but i understand overscoring from competing in other sports - i also havenāt watched the performances and donāt know a ton in general about the way things are scored. the only reason iām seeing all the upset over nathan chen winning the title over jason brown is because i was in nathanās tag (as iām a fan of his and happy about the win).
my view doesnāt mean anything but honestly at this point things arenāt going to be overturned. thereās been a lot of complaints about overscoring through the years - even just that iāve noticed since i started paying attention to figure skating - and itās something that needs to change on a different level. attacking the skaters isnāt going to rescore the performances of their competitors.
and on that note, iām seeing some stuff about johnny weir alluding to/trying to create tension between nathan and yuzuru hanyu. again, i havenāt heard or seen this yet, but this is something i fully believe. lately johnnyās seemed a little... wild and dramatic. kinda wanna chalk it up to him feeling displaced after adam rippon becoming the new sassy gay it-person for media, but itās been a year. unfortunate that heād undermine the friendship of two incredible skaters/competitors, though.
