BPjM filed charges against "Hackers" leaking the secret governmental censorship list.
The Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (BPjM) filed criminal charges against unknown Hackers leaking the secret governmental censorship list yesterday.
The Federal Police (BKA) started investigations to identify the persons that reverse engineered the list.
Because other Blogs (Netzpolitik.org) and Media (Heise.de) were threatened by BPjM for being charged of "making available indictable content (i.e. child pornography)", I deleted my original post including the link.
These are severe charges in Germany, which could lead to years of prison. I am not willing to take that risk for the same reasons as Heise and Netzpolitik.
After a long discussion the editors of Heise online decided to remove the original link to the #BPjMleak website. Although we are still convinced that there is a huge public interest for background information about the hack, on the other hand there is a potential risk for our employees, because of the list of links published on that website and possible criminal charges of distribution of child pornography and other delicts. We decided on behalf of our colleagues to not take that risk.
On the other hand the BPjM didn't comment on the overblocking issues of their list, containing >3000 URLs of which about 50% were inactive or didn't contain chargable content. They also didn't comment on why there are links to child pornography only blocked (if you use proven software/hardware), instead of trying to find and charge the owners and take their servers physically offline.
