People die on the battlefield all the time. Petrine has made a point to kill Laguz simply for being Laguz. At the time of Petrine’s position as a Rider of Daein, she’s killed far more than her fair share of people. Ally and enemy alike. 

Death is a constant and she’s often faced with it but Petrine doesn’t often stare down her own mortality. (Even if she canonically bit it). 

Her attitude towards it is as about as cavalier as you think though, there are exceptions towards who she cares about hurting though.

This might come as a shock to many people but Petrine isn’t what most people would consider a good person. She isn’t inclined to help many people and she’s fairly self serving by default.

She would have to know them or have at least a little respect for them for her to consider helping them. Beorc are predominantly rotten in her eyes. Laguz are worst. She’d be inclined to aid another branded and children. (She’s bad but she isn’t cartoonishly bad.)

Petrine is pessimistic and I think she’s the kind of person to think that life is a one and done deal and that when you’re gone, you’re gone. It’s a pretty soul crushing thing truth be told.

She’d have trouble believing in any such happy afterlife hogwash but I imagine she thinks that, if nothing else, death is peaceful.
