iām worried for when 114 and 114.5 get animated and itās because of how dazai acts in both chapters.
he is so animated and emotional here and for him, thatās very out of character. itās clear he doesnāt have a plan at the moment and is coming to the horrifying realisation of what fyodorās ability is and what heās just done.
a thing with studio bones though, that many other people have talked about, is how they tend to remove most of the scenes with dazai expressing thoughts outside of this āhaha i knew this all along lol i always have a planā bs that he shows a LOT.
chapter 98 vs season 5 episode 7. come on now dazai. youāre allowed to be pissed.
but here, dazai kind of HAS to panic. the whole point is that he saw NONE of this coming and that heās only piecing it together now, when it may be too late. he couldnāt have formed a plan to combat fyodorās plan because he never could have guessed it would actually happen. this is, in his words, the worst case scenario.
bones canāt make him act like he does know what heās going to do next. if he didnāt he wouldnāt be as scared as he is right now.
if dazai, someone who is extremely smart and can always predict events from a huge distance, is panicking, the audience (gcse drama coming in clutch here) will know something BIG will happen, because now we have one of the more ācalmer in troubling situationsā characters freaking out and losing composure completely. and itās more than fair for him to freak out considering whatās going on at the airport right now.
but, if dazai is like āoh i knew it from the start (NO THE FUCK YOU DIDNāT BTW) hehehe i know how to solve this ā,:)ā the audience (specifically anime-onlys but i think itās time for you guys to pick up the manga) is like āoh, heās gotten it under control, if he knew from the beginning we should be okayā when itās anything BUT okay at the moment.
dazai is scared. and thatās fine. heās allowed to be scared. heās allowed to not have a plan right away. heās allowed to mess up, to not have thought this far ahead. hopefully he can come up with something in the coming chapters, but here, the point is that he hasnāt formed any sort of counter just yet.
bones is perfectly capable of getting scenes on point! they managed to execute chapter 101ās famous scene perfectly! hopefully this scene wonāt be a victim of poor adaption. this is one of my favourites with dazai so far, and itās the most expressive iāve ever seen him.
