How do you find Helluva Boss ORPHAN TIME short's ending?
I liked it
I didn't liked it
Mood
Love seeing the fan art
But no
They shouldn't have ended the short on some profound, uplifting note where Blitz comforts Loona and has some emotional conversation about "real dad" and "you don't need their approval" or "You're perfect how you are"
Because it's a short.
That's it.
They'll have some hart to heart, more screen tim together, etc in the series proper. Especially if we're supposedly getting more on Loona's backstory next season. ESPECIALLY if next season is focusing on "family".
This was a short. It isn't supposed to do any heavy lifting for the characters, it's supposed to be a snapshot, like a brief look into what they're up to during a time skip.
It was great. It ended with a huge tone shift because it had to bring us back to "reality" (of the show). The majority of the short was not the tone of the show. It was dabbling in Something Else, and that isn't this.
It was a short, and is purpose was to put Those Guys into Situations and have fun.
I liked it. I appreciated the tidbit of I.M.P. during this hiatus. I am here to receive the story they want to tell. And if I want something else, I'll go to AO3.
I like the new short Orphan Time.
I hate to use the word "reminder" but it was. It's a reminder that this show is violent and messy ad for adults. That the protagonists are hit men, they make money by killing living humans regardless of morals, etc. But I don't like "reminder" because the "reminding people" part isn't as important as "it is". If you forgot that's your problem. I remembered, I wasn't taken by surprised or shocked. I remembered that time in the pilot they sawed a kid apart in the pilot. I laughed and I loved it and fucking obviously this isn't a message of cdo this in real life this is cool" but why the fuck would I want to watch real life stuff? Most media I love are about non-realistic stuff; I don't get my morals from media.
Onto the actual short itself:
Yeeeees Loona has gone through so much development! Before this, she's already done so much development to get open and vulnerable enough to even hear the guy out. She's opened herself up to the possibility of having a positive relationship, then to having multiple positive relationships, and she saw a dad who cares about his kids here. She has one of those here. And even if her dad who she knows loves and cares about her so much is immature and weird, other guys can be sincere and real. Her dad wants to spend time with her, she feels bad for this dad.
But even genuinely good people who do everything right and are practically saints are still people. They can still freak out upon seeing a demon and scream and that guy they killed may have been some platonic ideal of cgood person" but he screamed and made Loona feel self conscious and sad.
But her dad killed the fuck out of that guy. Her dad isn't perfect but nobody is and he loves her so so so much.
Next:
Yay it's setting Loona up on missions. We're pretty sure SallieMay is going to join the team, and we're getting more development on all fronts here. Does it further plot? Not really. Probably. I mean, I could see this old man getting a cameo later if we see heaven again (along the cherubs plot line) or in Hazbin know they can have crossovers), but also does it need to?
I think most of us miss longer shows were we got filler episodes that serve no purpose other than "put those guys in situations". It's great for characterizations. So, yeah, we did lean stuff. We learned what would happen if Loona had to killsome old guy that seems to be perfect and sweet and spent so much of his life caring about the people no one else did. We learned what would happen if his daughter, whom he really wanted to spend quality time with) wanted to take the lead on a hit and wanted to give the guy some extra time (he would cave and let his 'little girl' take the lead and waste the day because that's what she wanted to do).
I thought it was great. It's a side quest. It's a short for a reason. People wanted more hits, now we have a side-series that seems to be exclusively about I.M.P. taking hits, and people are ungrateful? Boo. It's great. Stop falling for the "I projected the progress o this unfinished character/story differently than the writers did and now I'm disappointed" bullshit. Eat your dessert and be happy, or don't eat it. That's fine too.
