Gaara and dogs. Hear me out

So I don't remember exactly what it's like in canon/if its mentioned at all or more of just a fanon thing, but animals probably hated gaara as a kid right? And probably even after his moral whiplash bc there's a literal demon sealed in him and animals pick up on shit you know

BUT HEAR ME OUT

He kind of resigns himself to animals never liking him. Like it is what it is. Kinda sad tho bc hes not great at making friends and also he's kazekage which is probably lonely in its own right. So it'd probably do him good to have a pet to keep him company. But most animals he interacted with for a long time HATED him so he doesn't bother trying.

BUT.

What if - after shukaku got yoinked - animals started acting a bit more normal around him?

Like here's the thing. People have vibes okay. When someone has bad intentions, you can pick up on that shit even if you don't realize it. Body language, facial expressions, actions, etc all communicate things to us that we don't always even notice. Dogs can pick up on that shit too.

And Gaara is a good person okay!! After theres no more demon, there's no reason a dog wouldn't look at him and react the same way they'd react to any decent person who acts non-threatening towards them!

So anyway I have this scenario in my head. He's visiting konoha with his siblings. They run into Kiba and Akamaru. Akamaru - who had an immediate bad reaction to Gaara when he was 12 and murderous - has a positive reaction! Like 'oh hey that fucked up vibe is gone! Hello!!' And akamaru like. Greets him as positively as he'd greet anyone (especially maybe if he like! Lowers his sand guard so akamaru can smell him better or something! (Ik there's a thing about gaaras sand always smelling like dead people and i choose to ignore that bc I don't like the idea of my boy walking around smelling like ass all the time ok I want better for him))

Can you imagine how floored gaara (and probably everyone else) would be? But maybe he's immediately like "oh shit a dog doesn't hate me maybe I can have an animal friend" and he starts asking Kiba what it's like to take care of a dog. Maybe he meets up with Kakashi later for a kage meeting and gets some tips from him

Anyway maybe then when they get back from konoha he ends up rescuing a pair of dogs 🥺
