Johnny "Mama's boy" MacTavish who brings Simon "Mama's boy" Riley home for the first time and Ma MacTavish immediately adopts this quiet giant into her home.
Yes, because her boy loves him, but also because she's seen that sad look in her own son's eyes. And she knows with warm food, patience, and time, he'll warm up to the idea of being home too.
Ma MacTavish is used to bringing in Johnny's strays. There was the girl from preschool, tied at the hip they were. And she'd look up at Ma like she was an angel sent down just for sharing cake.
Or the little boy with the tired eyes Johnny met in grade school. He was wonderful at math. Helped Johnny through algebra. He was Ma's one exception to sleepovers on school nights.
And not to mention the lads Johnny would bring home from training.
Ma's always liked her home full of life and noise and laughter and she'll share it with Simon too, gentle and warm.
