Behold- the most manipulative, morally grey, holier-than-thou politicians in this section of the galaxy. They both suck and want their sibling dead for their "betrayal"- Zadavia just sucks a little less because she protects Acmetropolis, even if her motivation for such start off a bit selfish (she's got a lot of investments and real estate on this planet and she'll be damned if she'll let Optimatus mess with it. It's a little tricky to fight a war and win with no money)
I'm gonna cram so much slow-burn character development into these two it'll make you sick. I'm gonna pull a Dr. Randolph Bell with them, you'll see.

Random Worldbuilding Tidbits
Optimatus and Zadavia were close as children, though as they grew older, their mentors built a fierce competition between the two
Frelengian's of royal bloodlines are significantly larger than the average citizen
Their powers are considered "gift's of the Royal line" "bestowed" upon them at a young age by the "blessing" the royal crest.
This is technically false: their powers are kick started by Light Pieces* harvested from an ancient artifact known as the Renraw Prism.
These Light Pieces' spark their "potential"* and from there, their abilities can be further trained and refined to a terrifying power. (This can be done by a Frelengian without the prism but is infinitely more difficult)
In their free time growing up, Optimatus and Zadavia studied the Renraw prism and it's (admittedly limitedly recorded) history- believing they could find a better use for it to help their planet
how they wanted to use it however, was a bone of contention between the two (one of many)
during Optimatus' coup, Zadavia attempted to leave the planet with the Prism
in their fight for it, she cracked it and later- when attempting to stop the meteor from destroying Acmetropolis- she shattered it, severely injuring her
most of the pieces were caught in it's container, but several Light Pieces escaped to select new champions

Some character redesigns of the Loonatics, just for fun
Optimatus and Zadavia, no big changes just adjusted their outfits to the Loonatics, as if it was a common design on their planet
Granny, here she's more like a security agent for the entire planet, an ally who can assign missions to the Loonatics, her air agent Piolinus has no powers but is good at gathering information
Hazel II, a direct descendant of the original witch, she is not thought as a villain, much more like an apprentice witch whose spells can get a bit chaotic time to time, her little helper Guss can shapeshift
Finally Queen Tyr'ahnee with a redesign based on the Amazonas from the show, the funny thing is that I think if they made her now, those helpers she had would surely be re-thought as royal guards
Do you have any Loonatics headcanons that are a bit heavy or that you think the characters might have some trauma in them? Like the death of a relative, bad experiences with social relationships, etc.?
I see that a lot of people put this mainly on Ace, saying that he had some failed romantic relationships.
I have a long list of headcanons, but most are pretty silly. I’d say I have some for Zadavia, mainly her backstory. I like to think that Optimatus is her younger brother, who she cared deeply for. Optimatus’ descent into madness and lust for power scared her, seeing the sweet brother she cared for turn into something darker. For a while, she thought she had killed him after escaping and guilt has been eating her from the inside.
Zadavia sees the Loonatics as her children, especially Ace since I headcanon that they were the first to meet one another. She sees some of her brother in Ace and wants to be better for them.
In a rewrite idea, I gave Zadavia light manipulation powers which lets her change her appearance by manipulating the reflection of light. I wanted to give Optimatus the opposite, like something related to black holes or dark matter. As cliche as it is, I really love Sun and moon dynamics given the codependency and overshadowing of one party. Maybe at some point, Optimatus felt overshadowed by his sister or felt she was holding him and their planet back with her more diplomatic approaches. I still don’t have a solid concept so I’ve been playing around with a few ideas.

Duck felt pretty bad about Pinkster not being adopted so he spent his birthday wishes, secretly wishing Pinkster got adopted or even better, have him as a sibling. His self confidence nearly went to pieces when Pinkster became a villain and the others were there to comfort him.
Not sure if this one would be heavy but I headcanon that if there was a threat flying at the Loonatics head on, Tech and Slam wouldn’t hesitate to take the brunt of it.
Slam is the tank of the group and would likely act as a shield if needed. Tech has regeneration and he’s willing to resort to his most basic instincts to protect those he cares for

In my Loonatics reboot after they defeat Deuce for good, Optimatus does redeem himself but isn't let off easy for his crimes.
For starters he is stripped of his title as king and banned from holding any political office. Second he's placed under semi-permanent house arrest. Third he has his powers dampened meaning while he'll still have them for self defense he can't use full extent. He's constantly surveyed by guards out of fear he could slip back into his old ways. Optimatus knows he deserves it so he doesn't argue his punishment. At least now he has a lot of time to think about his actions and figure out where to go from there. So he decides to mentor his daughter Mikayla. Teach her how to use her powers, the inner workings of Freleng Politics, and how to deal with doubtful council members. While he and her momma Norah make up the latter expresses no desire to rekindle their romance. So Optimatus keeps his distance.
Of course the Loonatics still hold reservations about Optimatus given he had tried to destroy their planet. But seeing his genuine remorse they don't give him a hard time. Just cautious around him.
Zadavia is elated to have her brother back but even she couldn't ignore the severity of his actions. She supports him, guiding him to see a world beyond conquering. That even if their people hate him, she doesn't, and that she'll always be there for him. Mikayla is wary of him at first but decides to help to, even talking with her father about Earth and her interests. It's a rough journey though as Mikayla still feels the sting of his abandonment.
Not a lot of Frelengians buy into his reformation which is understandable since he was a tyrant. Many curse his name, many want him to see him exiled or rotting in a cell. Some cry hypocrisy - Deuce was thrown in jail but Optimatus was not. The former king doesn't contest this, which drives him further to undo his destructive policies. But no one has cursed his name more than the ex general.
