rossinian groups and whether or not polyamory would fix them:
Clarice/Asdrubale/Giocondo (la pietra del paragone): undoubtedly. They want to be a throuple so bad, but alas they are too 19th century to act on it. (& at the start of the opera asdrubale is too guarded to have even one partner. if he had to be vulnerable with two people he would explode.) Bonus points for their tender terzet about unconditional love and friendship
Matilde/Corradino/Isidoro (matilde di shabran): As the great philosophers Pacuvio and Donna Fulvia once said: having a man of letters (fuckass poet) in the house brings a family honor. If we are to believe the finale, then she has successfully fixed him and he will be nice forever, so isidoro has no reason to fear getting murdered. This is good in a healthy romance dynamic
Asdrubale/Fulvia/Pacuvio (la pietra del paragone): not at ALL but i have to include them since i mentioned their names. can you imagine if fulvia got her way. Rich husband and a pet poet? What more can a girl want! Bonus points for their one scene together where pacuvio reads asdrubale a love poem and makes fulvia give him a rose. It's so awkward
Ernestina/Ermanno/Buralicchio (l'equivoco stravagante): see, it does seem like ernestina wants her boyfriends to share her. Problem 1: in canon, this does not work. Famously. She goes to prison for fuck's sake. Problem 2: even if they did successfully arrange something, buralicchio would get so jealous he'd want to kill ermanno, and ermanno would also get so jealous he'd want to kill ermanno. Problem 3: ernestina does not actually like either of them💚💚🤍🩶🖤
Ory/Adèle/Isolier (le comte ory): general consensus seems to be that it would. Of course it would!!! Let us not think about how adèle and isolier are cousins and isolier is possibly a child. Bonus points for the #Threesome
Figaro/Rosina/Almaviva (the barber of seville): ehh. No. Rosina and almaviva are already a disaster waiting to happen and a third person would not help. Most likely it would only magnify the disaster. Perhaps something could happen between figaro and almaviva. ONLY them. let us Please think about how figaro is canonically ~27 and rosina is... No older than 16. Swiftly moving on
Berenice/Alberto/Parmenione/Ernestina (l'occasione fa il ladro): would not fix anything at all but. Couldn't hurt? The stakes are not that high. Have at it
Fiorilla/Selim/Zaida (il turco in italia): the drama is more complicated than these three, but they are the Main love triangle. polyamory fixes them for some time and then they have the messiest breakup in human history. Someone dies and it's not one of them
Isabella/Mustafà/Lindoro/Taddeo/Elvira (l'italiana in algeri): resounding yes. Everyone lives in peace, united by their shared love for the wonderful mary s i mean isabella
