i swear to god at this rate I'm just going to use core OpenSim until Tranquility gets it's shit sorted.
Is it older architecture, sure! But it fucking works out of the box, there's no missing SQLite files or need to setup MySQL- and beyond that it's all self contained in it's folder. So if I want I could just dump everything and start over with no issue, because I'll be running a Standalone session with no connection to the internet.
Why is it that everything that *can* break, *does* break when I'm setting up this OpenSim fork??? Nobody else seems to have all these problems!
i should be able to set everything up through the goddamn terminal once the backend stuff is prepped! But for some fucking reason it doesn't work??? Instead I get an error log that amounts to "oh the defaults that you are meant to fill in yourself during setup is just junk data, byeee~"
What looks like the last major hurdle for setting up OpenSim is in front of me- configuring MySQL to work with it. SQLite, as it was built in kept failing to load in critical files. On top of that, it seems to be an older architecture. The MySQL database might need to be configured with to use utf8mb4 character set, if it isn't already. However the only official wiki that guides users through setting up OpenSim has folks setting it up with the [less efficient?] utf8.
I'd rather have my setup future proofed now, with up to date tools and backends. Only trouble is I barely understand what I'm reading, and the Tranquility fork devs have lives outside of answering my every question, so it's extremely slow going.
getting OpenSim Tranquility to run has been a slow uphill march. I think i have it figured out with my limited coding skills, only to find that nope! something new came up and now I'm digging through reddit pages and old chat logs.
I'm putting together my own list of expanded instructions because the default setup guide is extremely lacking. Which, cool the devs are on the way to fixing it on their end but still!
question of the hour- what the fuck is up with the database connection code??? is it better to use SQLite or MySql or PGSQL??? Core configs aim for one thing but we're aiming to move away from core opensim. it looks like some files are straight up missing, but that could be yet another example of "you need to make it yourself"!

the opensim fork is maintained by a community of ai shilling chuds, because of course it is!
also got an ex-friend in there so now I'm trying to decide what, if anything i should do. On the one hand, ex-friend who is okay with ai in a community of such so why should I tolerate them. On the other, blocking and quitting groups is how I've managed to avoid dealing with people i disagree with.
bit of a tangent but its odd how people will say "block and leave and report for online stuff" but then go "oh you cant do that with people offline, you need to learn to deal with them.". So avoidance is only feasible if its through a screen, otherwise tolerance is the name of the game?
once again the question rolls around in my head: what is fun worth?
found an actively maintained OpenSim fork, and here's hoping it doesn't crash on me at startup like DreamGrid kept doing.
*that* setup would try to boot and then crash partway through, looping error messages endlessly until my only recourse was to shut down my pc!
