During this scene, the Conductor mentions a time when he’d nearly fallen off the train but was saved by some mysterious force. I know it’s heavily implied that it was the Hobo, but I like to think maybe it was the spirit of the train itself, saving its dear Conductor. I’ve also seen a theory saying that the Hobo IS the train, and it’s a sort of test of belief for especially stubborn children like the Hero Boy… Maybe it’s just the Pere Marquette 1225 brainworms talking to me but I’m enamored with the idea of the PolEx as its own being on this journey.
