Day 8: Week Two - Prompts - Pride

Vivian sipped on their milkshake at Pop's. They had only been in Riverdale for two weeks but already, they had had a crush on one of the locals - Lois Lambert.

Viv stared longingly at the other girl as she walked Diner with some of her friends, laughing about something. Vivian wished they could be part of the conversation. Friends didn't come easily to them. In fact, people were more likely to rip into them.

Being a lesbian was one thing, but identifying as non-binary to boot made them stick out. Not everyone cared to use the right pronouns for Vivian and their dad didn't care enough to intervene. They missed Lucia in Seattle. She was happy helping her family and Vivian loved that for her. But they missed spending time with Lucia at the Firehouse.

They were so engrossed staring at Lois, they didn't notice someone sitting down in front of them. When Vivian finally noticed she jumped slightly.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't notice you sitting down. I'm Vivian, nice to meet you!"

"Warren Carlson," the boy introduced himself. He extended his hands. Vivian shook it. "I noticed you staring at my sister."

Vivian's heart began to race. This was already going downhill. They began to fidget with their hands. "Uhm..."

Warren waved her off. "No worries, I won't snitch. I just wanted to help you out a bit. You're new, right?"

"Uhm, kinda. I'm visiting Lucia Diaz. I don't know if you've met her. Her sister Bee works here."

"Bee Ortiz? I know her. I think I met Lucia before too. How do you know her, if I may ask?"

Vivian nodded. "You may! She was dating my dad for a couple of years there. They broke up but she's like the mom I never had, so she's not getting rid of me anytime soon!"

Warren laughed. "Nice! The Lamberts took me and my brother in recently and I can assure you, Lois is great...most of the time."

Vivian raised their brow.

Warren waved his hand once more. "She's fine, just a little bit prissy. Her friends are helping her past that though. She's awesome, I swear."

Vivian nodded, the corner of their mouth raising as they began to smile once again. "Good to know."

"You seem nervous."

"Oh please, I'm a non-binary lesbian who manages to outrun Denise every day."

Warren narrowed his eyes. "Who's Denise?"

Vivian waved their hand. "Doesn't matter. Anyways, I'm proud of who I am. But I have a hard time approaching people sometimes. I don't like setting myself up for disappointment."

"Trust me. Lois won't disappoint you. I can subtly drop a hint. Maybe make her look your way if you want."

Vivian bit their lip, pondering on it for a couple of seconds. Normally they didn't like taking hand outs and they sure didn't need help with talking. But Warren knew Lois and he would know who she likes. If he's willing to set help them out, he must think it will work out.

They nodded. "Do it," they said. Warren got up from his seat, turning to walk over to his sister. Vivian grabbed his hand. "But don't tell her I sent you."

Warren turned back and winked at them before walking off.

Vivian smiled somewhat akwardly and looked at their phone to seem busy. They looked up after a couple of seconds to see Warren leaning down on Lois' table. She looked up and smiled Vivian. Viv smiled back.
