So, both translations here have a similar message, so im assuming the official translation will have the same tone. This bothers me immensely.
Of course, Zoro needs to have badass one liners and he needs to look cool because Shonen nonsense etc etc. But this, at best, is out of character.
Zoro's character, at its core, is an emotional response to a death. He's dedicating his life to the promise he and Kuina made, and her death really solidified his resolve. He has never been one to demean someone's emotions when it comes to the death of a loved one, or even when they experience a death in general. He's crude, sometimes cold, and very straightforward. But he's not cruel or heartless. The very nature of an edgelord (which he is) is despite their rough exterior and grating nature, they deeply care about the people around them and act out of love for their sakes.
So what is this? It's hypocritical, to say the least, especially considering his recent experience with Yasuie. Is this laying groundwork for a character building moment? If so, what could this possibly be leading towards that he hasn't already learned since he was a child? Is this a one off thing that will never be brought up again? Possibly.
Luffy is mourning the death of someone he connected with. It's wildly out of character for Zoro to say this, ESPECIALLY when it's about Luffy of all people. I wanna see where this goes, kinda hoping this is just one bad moment. But girl. Come on. You're better than this.
