Aziraphale, who had up to now been hunched over at his writing desk making notes of reference against a large tome, heard the single syllable and stopped so completely that the laws of physics might have coughed in embarrassment.
With utmost caution, he straightened up. It wasn't that he didn't like the fellow, but there was something exceedingly eccentric about the Librarian. The fact that he was an orangutan didn't even make the list in comparison.
The angel turned slightly in his chair, eyes cast upward while he focused all of his attention on listening. Then as an added precaution he added out loud, "You're more than welcome to the pecan tassies but we'll not have the same incident we had last time with the shortbread, hm?"
