He can still recognize the value in other people and relate to them on a personal, even intimate, level, when by all rights you'd think that someone in his position would be so used to living in those conditions - always having to watch your back, always wondering how long until someone tries to stab you in the back, what their motives are, always having to assume the worst about people or risk getting killed - that forming close bonds would be damn near impossible. But he does it, despite everything
