Project Hail Mary!

I personally am subscribed to the aroace Ryland Grace headcanon, but I also think (for the sake of narrative tension and character development) he’s not a beta. I could see him being an omega or an alpha, to be completely honest, but I like the idea of there being that added expectation for him to find a partner that would contribute to him eventually realizing he’s aroace

as many people have already pointed out, the “you don’t even have a dog” scene in the movie and just knowing that Grace loves life enough to feel fulfilled without needing a romantic partner is a very aroace-coded experience, so adding the expectation of him needing a mate would be very in line with that

Eridians have no concept of gender so I severely doubt they would have secondary genders either lol

as for the other human characters…

Stratt is an alpha on heavy suppressants. it’s how she stays objective and “emotionless” on a day to day basis (her being an alpha also feeds into their allegations if Grace is an omega)

Lloyd is an omega in my mind. mostly because of his relationship with Alicia in canon but also because he just seems that way.

on that note, Alicia is an alpha and so is Javier. I’m a multishipper for both of them so they’re both alpha-omega pairs (or an alpha-alpha-omega polycule?) with Lloyd

given the nature of this story, I think the world in The Knight of Blood and Iron would have little to no sexist prejudice of any kind, including for secondary genders. any kind of pairing is considered normal and okay, though some are just generally more common than others. alpha-omega is the most common simply because of how biology works, but any other kind of pairing still exists and is accepted.

fair warning, I have not read the novel and I’ve actually managed to avoid spoilers for once, so this might not be accurate for any novel readers out there

Lee Hoyeol is an omega, but Granfel is an alpha. I love the idea of that kind of dichotomy between them with everything they have going on. I would say they’re technically a pair but their relationship is so abnormal in itself I don’t even think I could put that label on it

worldbuilding:

there is some level of prejudice against secondary genders and dynamics, but more specifically it’s against alpha villains. they’re seen as the most aggressive of villains and therefore the least reasonable, making it easier for people to dehumanize them compared to a beta or an omega. however, alphas and omegas are affected in equal measure by their emotions and desires due to their dynamic, while betas are affected a little less.

among villains, there’s generally little prejudice given most of them are just trying to survive, but of course there are a few that either see alphas as superior or more base and aggressive compared to other secondary genders.
