[27.8.17] dedication: It’s 3.53am, I finished an essay and one chinese test paper. This means that I’m left with another chinese test paper and 10 mcq practices
"It's just a bad day, not a bad life."
[Public Service Announcement, PSA] It’s halfway across the term and I just want to say that your health comes before your grades. Ignore the bullshit and negativity around you and focus on the good times rather than the bad.
[230617] Tips and Tricks for Literature students (whether you are an ap lit student or ib lit student) Standard Tips: 1) Read plenty of online analysis: This will help you to find your own writing style and you will learn to look at things from a different perspective. 2) Practice, practice and practice: You need practice in every subject. If you can spare some time to watch YouTube or scroll through Tumblr, it’s about time that you take out a pen and write an analysis. Practice essays help to gauge your standard and the amount of time you spend per essay. Sure Literature isn’t math but you will never be able to escape practice essays. 3) Annotating: This is kinda a no brainer but if your book is still empty, there’s something wrong. Don’t be afraid to get your book dirty (You can annotate a poem too). Notes: If you aren’t one to get your book dirty, I highly recommend that you make your own notes. Don’t expect your literature teacher to be on your back every. single. time. What most markers are looking for is a fresh opinion and piece of writing. Make sure that your notes are concise for quick revision. 4) Listen to your teacher: As much as you hate them for assigning you homework, they are “trained” Teachers for a reason, they can offer you opinions on your piece of writing and make sure that you aren’t misinterpreting. 5) Never misinterpret during an exam: IMPORTANT. The teacher can give you a straight fail for misinterpreting. Misinterpreting is something that all Literature students avoid like a plague (I’m one of them). Always stick to the meaning of the poem/prose and try your best to avoid writing something that you are not confident/ uncomfortable with writing. 6) Read up on your literary devices: Alliteration, personification, anthropomorphism, consonance, etc. Make sure you know EVERYTHING before an exam. 7) Re-read through the text that you are tested on for as many times as you can: This is so that you can get a better grasp of the content that you are tested on. 8) Take your homework seriously: Like all other subjects, do your homework do the best of your abilities. At the end of the day, it'll really make a big difference. Stationery: I’m a stationery addict, no joke. I will be stationary at the stationery section for as long as I can. (pun intended) 1) Uniball Signo 0.38 Pens: I’m not a big fan of .38 pens but given the tiny margins of some books, I need .38 pens to squeeze my thoughts inside. My personal favourites are Uniball Signo pens because they are extremely smooth and sharp. (juxtaposition?) The only downside is that their pens do dry really quickly and good game for you if you drop it. (personal victim) 2) Pilot Acroball .7 Pens: For writing fast during an exam. 3) Zebra Sarasa .5 Pens: Personal favourite regular pens for exams 4) Zebra Midliners: I’m not a visual person so I tend to just underline sentences using a pen but I do use midliners to highlight character traits and themes that I have noted down. 5) Ruler: I hate jagged lines. 6) Correction Tape: For all the errors that you make
I hope that my tips have been lit (once again, pun intended)! Happy annotating everyone and good luck! ⁽(◍˃̵͈̑ᴗ˂̵͈̑) Currently listening to 🎧: Kimi No Na Wa, Your Name & Koe No Katachi, The Silent Voice OSTs
