Imagine meeting My Pet Monster in person, and on Halloween, no less. He was a very popular toy, certainly so in my household. I actually think that my parents might've brought him along in a wagon for Trick 'r Treating before I was big enough to go out on my own. Years later, as adults, I'd engage in an acrimonious battle for custody of him with my brother. I think you can guess who prevailed.

This is the last run of C&O Train No. 15 as it passed through Okemos, Mich. on April 30, 1971. Amtrak took effect the next day but included no ex-C&O/PM lines in Michigan in its new system. By the time of this photo the PM trains had been reduced to one or two cars. C&O E8 No. 1473 is unusual in that its truly a "C&O/B&O" locomotive. Through a stenciling error it had C&O lettering on the side and a B&O capitol dome logo on the nose. (Gene Huddleston photo, C&OHS Collection, COHS 20437)
