"Appalachian Autumn"
It's a cool and crisp Autumn evening in Prince, West Virginia as Chesapeake & Ohio H8 "Allegheny" No. 1601 drags a heavily loaded 140-car coal train past the station while No. 1600 shoves the train from behind. Following the end of steam operations on the C&O in 1956, the 1601 would be donated to The Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, Michigan, where it has been on display since.

"Ohioan Overcast"
Chesapeake & Ohio T-1 No. 3015 leads a heavy northbound coal train towards Toledo, Ohio underneath some overcast. With the C&O gradually replacing steam power with diesel power, the locomotive is within its final years of service before being retired and scrapped sometime in the early 1950s.

After devastating damage to the Canal with the rains of Hurricane Agnes in 1972, the canal had been repaired and rewatered by 1975, at least in Georgetown. The industrial building on the left was subsequently gentrified.
