Hi! Yes I do love the oxford handbooks haha. I didn’t really have clinical years like you, but for placements I just think its good to have the oxford handbook in your bag to refer to things. So like, if you see a condition at placement, you can quickly use your handbook, which I find really handy for learning. It also has good pages on how to do clinical skills and procedures if you get to do any of those!

Also they’re great for reading up on the basics of a specialty. So say you have a gastro placement, read through the gastro section of the clinical handbook before you start and you’ll probs be golden.

Hi! It’s basically a book for what you’ll need as a foundation doctor, so it’s pretty helpful. For example it has summaries on the most commonly prescribed drugs, a guide for practical procedures you’ll do as a junior doctor, and sections on things that commonly freak out new doctors, such as fluid prescribing. It has small summaries on each of the conditions (cos it assumes you’ll know them already mostly) but has useful info on how to approach things. E.g. what to do if a patient comes in with chest pain, what tests to order, differentials etc. Very useful for OSCE finals prep, and I’m sure it will be useful when I graduate.
