Usually, she would prefer to get a direct flight, even if it meant paying over the odds. Kit hated flying...hated it. This hatred made the thought of having to board not one, but two different planes and only a couple of days apart, was nothing short of overwhelming. So the very least she could do was distract herself from her self-imposed misery, by aimlessly wandering around any notable ‘touristy’ spots. Which is what led her to the Smithsonian that day. She’d already meandered around the Air & Space, the same with American History and now, tired feet and a frazzled mind found her trudging through the Natural History building, wishing she’d come here first because it held much more interest.
The ‘Objects of Wonder’ exhibit lifted her steps and mood considerably and in no time, she found that time began to pass quite quickly, until she reached a huge slab of Lapis Lazuli. The ‘Blue Flame’ held her in rapt attention as she stared at the striations of colour and texture, fingers twitching as if to scream out how they wanted to reach out and touch it, to see if it were actually real as she felt somewhat ‘unreal’ herself.
Of course, she didn’t. That sort of thing was not allowed and she was always the one to adhere to rules. But it did bring out a sigh, her head tiled slightly to the right side, eyes focused, yet glazed over. But she wasn’t thinking of flying anymore. Which was good.
