I walked from Ocean Reef Park to the border of MacArthur Beach State Park, about a mile's walk on the beach. Counted over 20 fresh sea turtle tracks. I stopped counting after 20 :) There was one huge nest - probably a Leatherback. The others were much smaller. My first time seeing the remnants in the sand of their journey home to continue the cycle of life. Saw three u-turns, unfortunately. If you're a beach goer you can do 3 simple things to protect the species - Leave only footprints! Plastic bags resemble jellyfish when in the ocean and if a turtle eats it, she's a goner. Next, knock down sandcastles and fill in holes. How would you like to be in active labor and haul YOUR ass around garbage & holes to get to the delivery room? Thought so:) And lastly? Turn off any lights on the beach - distracting to the mothers and DEADLY to hatchlings!
