Hehβ¦while I made this comic for the funniest it ignited a want to yap so Iβm gonna yap about Yusufβs character flaws..
One of Yusufβs biggest flaws is their inability to step forwardβand to take action until something dire is happening. Theyβre so avoidant of conflict that they just let things happen. They watched Wayne ignore and neglect Nyeβs clear needs and wants for attention (even if unintentional), and didnβt do anything to stop it. They didnβt even do as much as sit Wayne down and say βHey, your child seems a little downβmaybe you should check in?β. Obviously this avoidant behaviour stems from a fear of being abandoned and ridiculed for having opinions. Despite being more than qualified to be able to recognise why Nye acts how he does, and being able to empathise with him even, he doesnβt want to police how Wayne raises his own kid.
And the only times where he finally does take action, is when itβs reached a point where the damage done is almost irreversible. He eventually learns to be more outspoken, but thereβs still that nagging fear at the back of his mind.
And sometimes, Nyeβs demeanour towards him feels justified. What kind of person lets their best friend do so much harm. Even if Nyeβs anger towards Yusuf isnβt even for that, because Yusuf never properly attempted to reach out and show that he did understand Nye.

Oh my god, I feel my heart starting to crumble like AHHHHAHSJZHZHZJZ.
Wayne is there for Nye in everything else except emotional needs. Simply because he didn't know how to handle an obviously suffering, adolescent outside of surface-level comforts. Nye never explicitly asked for help eitherβ but his actions, the silent implications in his words: he was SCREAMING FOR HELP. And it never came, which is why Nye turned out as he did. I never drew past Nye, but his change was EXTREMELY DRASTIC. And I wonder if he would've maintain some aspects of his middle school self, if he had a proper support system and the assault didn't happen. <3 I DO hope Yusuf doesn't think Nye's current mentality/ state isn't his faultβ that's what NRC is for! A venting ground for the yuus to deal with (π).. I do think Wayne in hindsight realizes the royal screwup he had whilst raising Nye, and soβ like Yusuf is trying to fix things when it's TOO late.
