Throughout June, Menâs Health Month aims to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions.
âIt takes more courage to reveal insecurities than to hide them, more strength to relate to people than to dominate them, more âmanhoodâ to abide by thought-out principles rather than blind reflex. Toughness is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles and an immature mind.â â Alex Karras
Did You Know?: Men in the United States are expected to live nearly 6 years less than women. That number increases for those of non-Hispanic Black and American Indian/Alaska Native background.
Take Preventative Care: 63% of men of color report not getting regular health screenings and check-ups. Men are also more likely to have lower health literacy levels than women, meaning they may struggle to find, understand, and use information and services required to make informed decisions about their health.
Men are more likely to put their health at risk by smoking, drinking alcohol, and making other unhealthy life choices.
One in two men are diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.Â
Men lead the death rate for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and suicide.
