This may sound obvious, but not everything is for you.
And I know all of us think we know this, but knowing it isn't the same as fully understanding something, and sometimes it shows.
What I'm talking about specifically here is the number of negative reviews that center on how game, or show, or book, or story, or anything the thing being reviewed isn't to their taste.
I'm not saying you have to say you like things you don't like. Obviously. But there's a difference between something being poorly crafted and genuinely bad, and just being something that you don't like.
In other words, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad.
Maybe, it's just not for you.
Every other breathing human body upon the face on this planet contains a whole other person, different and distinct and separate from you, with their own thoughts, emotions, feelings, desires, needs. There's obviously overlap, a lot of people will enjoy a lot of the things you do, but the fact of reality is that it's extremely unlikely that there's even a single other human being upon the face of the entire planet that likes exactly every single thing you do.
Maybe, it's for them.
The old movie quote of "life is like a box of chocolates" is true enough, especially without the second half. Most boxes of assorted chocolates have a myriad of flavors and fillings, and while you might be one of the very few who likes all of them, odds are you don't like all of them equally. And if you have a person in your life that you disagree fully on which ones you like, you can eat the ones you do, and then trade boxes which means that both of you would get twice the amount of your favorite pieces.
This is only possible however if you're okay with other people liking things that you don't like.
Also, being okay with other people liking things you don't like helps you comprehend the inverse. Other people disliking the things you like isn't a judgement on you. Other people's dislikes aren't about you.
The world is a lot easier to navigate when you're able to enjoy what you enjoy without feeling as though you need permission to enjoy it, and you can walk through life without feeling as though you're being expected to enjoy things you don't.
When you can comfortably say "I don't like the cherry nougat" without judging those who do, and comfortably hear "I don't like the caramel" without taking it personally, or which ever flavors of chocolates, or anything else for that matter you don't or do like. When you can truly understand that not everything is for you.
