I've been rewatching all of Techno's DSMP streams and going feral about how he was set up to fail. About how he joined a situation where Tommy and Wilbur both deliberately misrepresented why he was there for their own ends. How Tommy dragged him into fights he wasn't involved in and never told him why. How Wilbur deliberately didn't warn anyone about his worries around the festival, held Tommy back from doing anything, and looked Tubbo in the eyes and told him Techno wouldn't hurt him when he did not have any guarantee of that. Neither of them were willing to see Techno as a fully autonomous person who was capable of any faults of man, because he really was The Blade. Their get out of jail free card, the savior of the revolution who also "betrayed them". He's whatever they want him to be, and never himself
i'm so sorry it took me a bit to answer this because man, yeah. it really was like that, wasn't it?
i've spent so long having to go 'yes yes c!techno also ignored the warning signs or didn't ask questions' which is true but the thing is, he believed in them. he had some bad feelings that were dismissed and therefore he dismissed but because these were his allies.
the truth is, that yeah. while i do think c!tommy cared for techno in his own way, i also think that he mostly saw him as this cool figure that he '''had''' on his side. it was about having The Blade. not all of it, but a lot of it, y'know?
and because techno seems so tough and seems to brush it all off, it's not really read as something that hurt him (despite him pointing to pogtopia being a terrible time for him).
honestly, you see the same thing in fandom! he's really funny so he obviously can't be awkward. he's really tough and strong so obviously he can't be traumatized. he brushes things off or gets mad so obviously he can't be hurt by someone's actions. instead of realizing that he's a person with nuance and all of those things are true!
