This is special RED THREAD NUMBERED (174/200) COPY OF CORALINE
It’s time to get the brands we support to turn up for people like you and me. With your help, on an ongoing basis, I’ll be reaching out to brands of your choice challenging them to take certain actions for the benefit of us (you, me, others).
CHALLENGE 1: FEED THE HUNGRY 🍎
Things are tight for a lot of people right now. Join me and share this initiative so that we can activate the power of the crowd to get brands to help people cover their food bill.
The Challenge: I’d like to get food brands to work with registered charities to provide some families with free groceries or meals for at least a month. I’d also like to get my Tumblr community discount codes from these merchants to help lessen your own financial pressures right now. These two things will be mandatory, but brands who participate can also choose to offer some optional perks (see below).
Drop your suggestions: Which food/grocery brands would you like me to reach out to? Which hunger-relief charities or food banks need a win right now?
Leave your brands and charities in the comments. I’ll get to work reaching out to these brands and report back on who steps up. As I challenge these brands, help me succeed by putting the power of the crowd behind me by following and sharing this.
Keep reading to see more details on how this works.
THE CONTEXT
How it works:
The Theme: I drop a challenge like this regularly.
The Targets: You suggest brands you actually like and registered charities/causes to receive help in the comments.
The Execution: I’ll approach some of these brands (ones whose values match the social good we represent) with a list of requests to see who is actually willing to step up.
The Outcome: Brands send donations directly to your charities. I’ll announce that and any goodies brands want to offer you here in a debrief report. Brands who participate get boosted by us.
What I’m asking them for:
The Essentials (mandatory): (1) a direct donation to any of the charities you listed (2) perks to share with my community.
The Extra Mile (optional): I’ll challenge them to go further by optionally doing any/all of the following: (1) promoting any of your charities on their socials/website, (2) picking at least three persons who have reblogged this post to receive an extra special gift, (3) supporting this creator’s work by leaving a tip, (4) offering special earning opportunities for my community (e.g., writing and other creative gigs), (5) adopting a charity for continued giving, and/or (6) offering their staff time off to volunteer to any of your charities.
In return? We show some love to the brands that actually step up by engaging with them, buying from them, and/or telling others about them. The brands that pick the most of all the options and/or gives the most gets called out with special focus in the debrief report which doubles as a marketing tool.
👍 Let’s make this happen. Follow me to get updates and share to help build the power of the crowd. This only works if you do this with me. I’m ready to give my full time and energy in this way to make good things for you and a world that needs it.
*Remember to share your suggestions of brands/charities.

Lord help us I'm back on my bullswim. Fam! It's almost here: the swim that god does NOT want me to swim. I have successfully participated through hurricanes, sharks, covid, and last year frigid temperatures that gave me a case of good old fashioned pneumonia and guess what? I'm still swimming because this event is amazing and every cash dollar goes toward sustaining and maintaining the vibrant queer enclave of Provincetown. "PTown" is the home away from home for tens of thousands of queers each year, and the full-time home of many. Life out there on the tip is hard, but love is powerful, and this swim? Is love.
If ten folks donate $20 each I reach my goal! C'mon.

Here's a tease of the story I wrote & the accompanying gorgeous art by Adrienne Jimenez! My story takes place between the end of XmenTAS & Xmen97. There's a little spice in this one! 🌶
Support Cambodia's first animated film! Made by an amazing local charity!
So you might not know this but Cambodia has been through Hell in our/your parents' lifetimes. Around the time of the Vietnam war Cambodia was going through a brutal genocide that killed about 2 million people, 25% of the population. Most surviving Cambodians were and are impoverished. Cambodia has an astonishing amount of orphans and orphanages. Everyone has family members that were murdered.
I went to Cambodia as part of a school history trip to learn about the Khmer Rouge genocide (and the neighboring Vietnam War, which also left Cambodia riddled with American bombs which disabled many Cambodians) and saw the mass graves and the schools that were turned into torture prisons.
But we also saw a lot of hopeful, marvelous work being done, not least of all by Phare Creative Studio, which is a non-profit that teaches Cambodians struggling to find work skills in various art industries and gives them jobs to earn a living. Most well known is their circus, but they also run an animation studio, which mostly makes short films and government health PSAs. It's a beautiful, wonderful cause, especially since the genocide targeted educated people and artists, so skilled workers and Cambodian cultural practices were nearly wiped out. Speaking with their staff and circus performers filled me with so much hope.
They're working on their first feature film and their kickstarter ends in just 4 days! They still need a lot of help to get there, I wish I'd realised they were running the campaign sooner. If you want to create a real difference in the lives of people recovering from genocide, I highly recommend pledging to their campaign. Even a few dollars will help them gain more traction (and for Westerners, because of exchange rates your money in particular will go a long way).
It's a rough time globally and it can be hard to know where to donate your time, money, energy, but I promise you donating to this cause will do marvelous good for people who really need the help.
A love letter to Cambodia’s resilience—crafted by the next generation of Khmer artists at Phare Creative Studio.
