The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) is a nationwide nonprofit organization whose purpose is to offer leadership on a wide variety of rural health issues through research, education, advocacy, and communications. As part of its efforts to improve rural health, the NRHA Rural Community Health Initiative helps to promote and support various innovative programs within rural settings in order to extend healthcare beyond the traditional hospital setting. Through this initiative, NRHA has been able to address critical healthcare issues facing rural America, including challenges caused by the health disparities in rural areas.
This initiative focuses on community-based programs categorized under section 330A of the Public Health Service Act. These programs facilitate funding arrangements in order to boost access to health care in rural communities, as well as handle any health related challenges these communities face. Thanks to this initiative, rural communities enjoy other benefits such as better chronic disease management and lowered health risks. NRHA’s role is to coordinate policy efforts and facilitate listening sessions, as well as manage information dissemination using best practices. The organization works closely with rural community leaders who understand their communities in order to address a range of underlying issues.
