finished my last clinical day ever.
I have now turned in all written work, finished all clinical hours, and completed all exams for my NP program. It’s over!
Now I can officially start studying for boards.
So excited that you’re finishing the HH universe. When are your exams for NP accreditation?
Graduation day is May 6.
As soon as my school sends forms verifying my graduation and clinical hour completion to the accrediting body, I will be eligible to sit for boards. I have to sit for two different boards, and I plan to sit for acute care first. Once that one is done, then I will review and sit for family. But, you can’t schedule either of these exams without an authorization to test from the certifying body.
So, it’ll depend on when I receive my ATT letter! Hopefully I can sit for acute care in May/June and family in June/July.
Congrats on your last semester of school! What kind of NP are you studying to be?
Thank you so much! It has been a ton of work. But, after 14 years at the bedside in one way or another, I am so, so ready to be done.
I will be graduating with a dual certification degree in both Family and Adult Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, so when I am all finished, I will be a dual certified FNP-BC, AGACNP-BC. :)

GUESS WHO GOT IN TO NURSE PRACTITIONER SCHOOL?! 😱✨
5am chats with the mentor are life-saving
She’s in Atlanta, started her critical care NP residency this week, and she’s having anxiety and imposter syndrome (she’s the smartest person I know, we just live in an A-type perfection worldview 🤣) - and I started the toughest term of NP school and my week has not gone as planned in any way shape or form. So talking to her, both in supporting each other, was a breath of fresh air.
Grace to ourselves and the knowledge that we are meant to be where we are ❤️ The imposter syndrome may be strong, but our feelings are valid and we can persevere.
I try to avoid platitudes and toxic positivity - it doesn’t help to say that it will be okay or everything works out. But we can recognize our strengths, we can recognize that we are meant to be here and to do the hard things. Anxiety and lack of sleep and too much caffeine also messes with our emotions and twists our thoughts.
If nothing else, it is one moment at a time. One action at a time.
Clinicals start in February, and I'm considering how I would like to curate my experience to best support my end objective: working in oncology/hematology with blood cancer patients, preferably in stem cell transplant/BMT, but also things I'm interested in.
So far, I am interested in rotations with:
Inpatient BMT
Medical ICU
Interventional Radiology (maybe? Though I've heard how little NPs work in this area)
Palliative care
Surgical oncology
Cardiology/CVICU
Cystic Fibrosis patients
After talking with my co-mentorship partner (look at me, I'm heading our programs mentorship program!!!), I got to thinking about what clinicals I want to experience, and they are fast approaching! Now if only this summer was so insane (I'm so done writing this mock project paper *cries in APA format*)
