Hera: To Catch a Star -- releasing in early 2023

I'm going to try to share as much as I can without spoiling the story...

The Plot

Rynn Hera discovers he is the forbidden offspring of a celestial goddess and a mortal. As a result of this, he is in great danger and is pursued throughout the galaxy, for his blood makes him more powerful than he realizes. The first two novels chronicle Rynn’s travels with a brooding stranger, a kind but determined celestial priestess, and a witty space pirate/outlaw who is quite literally wanted by basically everyone in the galaxy.

The Characters

I haven’t really introduced any of my characters on here yet because I plan on doing so closer to the release of TCAS (To Catch a Star) but the main character is:

Rynn Hera. He’s a literal child. Lives in a cottage in the woods with his grandfather. Loves anything covered in sugar (three words: honey glazed rolls). Is he a cinnamon roll? A downright crybaby? I’ll let you decide for yourself.

The Trilogy

There are three novels in the Hera trilogy: To Catch a Star being the first.

As the series progresses, the plot gradually becomes more complex and weaves more characters and subplots into the main story, which is Rynn’s journey (both literally and emotionally) as the forbidden celestial child, son of a goddess and a mortal. In the end, a massive war birthed from religious and political conflicts is on the brink of breaking out, complicated by the existence of the celestial child and his powerful blood.

The Aesthetic/Mood

This is just a little sample of the moods across the trilogy, so it’ll vary based on novel.

I Mustn’t Forget the Culture/Fashion!

I’d describe it simply as a combination between Traditional Asian and Victorian/French culture and I don’t know about you but I personally love that combination

Of course, in addition to this everyone is always carrying a handgun/dagger and owns a spaceship/land speeder because although Hera is mostly fantasy there’s enough science fiction in there to classify it as such.

Details of Note

Glittery, syrupy-tasting blood ( not that anyone has tasted it to know…right?? ;) )? Check.

A “Hero’s Escape” (as opposed to the classic “Hero’s Journey”—I posted a bit about that earlier on so go scrolling far enough and you’ll find it) across space? Check.

Underground Gambling Club with a Poker-Playing Frog? Check.

Honey-Glazed Rolls? Check.

Worked on the basic plot of my book

Went to the bank to get some work sorted

Got my documents from the college

Helped my cousin make his resume for an internship

Helped mom make dinner

Tried a new cardio workout with dumbbells

I was really bored of the two workouts I would always do so I looked up a new one on YouTube today and it was so fun! I actually enjoyed doing it which made me realize how important it is to shake up your workout regime because boredom is also a cause for you feeling like you don't want to do it.

Also, initially I felt really frustrated while trying to work on my novel plot. I had very excitedly scribbled one down a month ago and then abandoned it. So when I picked it up today, I didn't relate at all and was very confused. While I was very tempted to just abandon it for good, I gave typing out whatever I remembered. And I ended up with 2700 words! And some interesting new plot twists.

Again, no studying today but I'm happy to still not waste away the entire day binge watching shows on Netflix and feeling sorry about myself.

This is absurd, but the classics inspired me so much to make my own novel.

There's a boy and a girl. The boy is gorgeous, kind, caring, amazing. The girl is a self proclaimed "Manipulative, lying little bitch" and a slut, who doesn't believe in true love. 

She meets the boy through her friends, they think that he'd be fun to "test". The girl asks him out, he accepts, thinking himself really lucky. She pretends to like him, they date for about a month before "getting serious". He falls head over heels, and she slowly begins to like him more and more. (IMPORTANT: SHE NEVER ACTUALLY LOVES HIM)

After about six months, the girl and her friends agree that they've had enough and the girl breaks up with him. Along with loosing the girl, he looses all his friends because they all think that he sucks after being dumped by the "hottest girl in school". He starts getting bullied because he's actually quite "odd" and "different". He's distraught, goes into depression, and later, throws himself off a bridge. 

The girl feels responsible for his death. She takes a complete 180 in his honour. She becomes a responsible, loving girl, not the slut she used to be.

That's alot longer than I thought it would be. Eugh. I planned for it to be about 5 chapters, but that won't work.
