Thereâs a Kurt Cobain quote that goes: âThey laugh at me because Iâm different; I laugh at them because theyâre all the same.â
For me dealing with a physical condition meant I didnât fit in, but children are cruel that way. Unless theyâre taught how to accept and live amongst other children who are different, they will always single us out.
Whilst not fitting in can emotionally make things more difficult, it also becomes obvious to others when children donât fit in and that can make us feel more isolated, but none of us should feel pressured into thinking we need to fit in. Perhaps thatâs the problem that we really just need to be ourselves.
Experience and life has shown me that itâs important to get on with life in other ways that itâs more important for us to fit into our own lives, more than trying to fit into other peopleâs. We can whinge, complain and moan and continue to feel different, or we can be proactive and get on with things.
Personally, I believe life isnât about us fitting in, itâs about making our own life count and thatâs one of the most important things we can do.
