Look at my fantastic rock. So circle.
Today was my last day with my Wednesday support provider. Her schedule has gotten too busy to see me anymore which is sad, frustrating, disappointing, mildly infuriating and mildly life, schedule, and routine changing. We went to pixie Park for the afternoon/evening. A happy and safe place of an adventure and break was needed. Drum rolls, please for the trinket haul or pretty rocks and shells from the mighty Columbia...
there's something almost electric about this fluorite from hunan province 🌿
xianghuapu district in hunan has been producing these wild apple green fluorites for years — the color comes from trace amounts of rare earth elements during crystal growth. each piece is genuinely unique because the color zoning shifts depending on where in the vein it formed
hunan province has such rich mineral diversity. aside from fluorite the region is also known for realgar, orpiment, and some stunning stibnite clusters. it's basically a mineralogist's dream territory
Sphalerite — the shape-shifter of the mineral world 🌸
This specimen from Asia shows sphalerite in a rare 'flower' formation, where crystals radiate outward like petals. Sphalerite (zinc sulphide) is famous among collectors for being wildly unpredictable in colour — it can be honey yellow, deep amber, red, green, black, or nearly colourless depending on trace iron content.
The warmer and more orange it gets, the lower the iron. The darker it gets, the more iron has substituted for zinc in the crystal lattice. Nature's own colour dial 🪨

Armageddon the 1998 film by director Michael Bay features Statutory Rape jokes with Rockhound portrayed by Steve Buscemi "Harry, I swear to God she never told me her age!" and again when the FBI agents come in he asks the girl at the bar "How old are you?"
So Diamond has been officially dethroned as the hardest stone.
This is Carmeltazite a newly discovered mineral out of Zebulun Valley of Israel in 2017.
It was officially recognized as a stone by the MIA in 2019.
It was hidden among some Sapphire so no one really knew what it was for quite some time.
