he looks at her with desperation.

anakin is crying. water wasted, but -
a decade apart and he returns to tattooine with his mother dead.
dying in his arms. too late, too late.
the wrong person died. anakin killed all the slavers, but -
it cannot bring shmi back.
before anakin leaves, beru gives him shmi's letters.
the ones she never sent.
not after the jedi rejected her first one.
'shmi loved you,' beru says, softly.
anakin takes the letters reverently.
'thank you,' he whispers, before disappearing, vanishing from tattooine's sands forever.
beru sits by shmi's grave.
closes her eyes.
and wishes for a brighter sunrise.
