I have a teenager on my hands! December 8th was Flash’s 13th hatch day! I still can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that this feathery little bundle of happiness, hilarity, and pure joy has been by my side for THIRTEEN YEARS. I say this every year, and honestly quite a lot throughout the entire 365 days that march on by on the regular, but I swear, my heart grows bigger with each passing moment he’s in my life. Flash fills me with such immense love for such a tiny thing - sometimes it’s overwhelming (but only in the best way possible). We celebrated by putting up lights outside and the Christmas tree inside, he got to play with the ornament boxes (his favorite!), and enjoyed warming his feathery little bum on the lights (as is his annual tradition). To top it off, he got to feast on broccoli, enjoyed all sorts of cuddles and pets, and wound down his night with snuggles and kisses against our necks. Oh Flash man, my little pookie doo, you sweet schnookie boy - I love you with all my heart and more. Another Shokugeki test to finish 2016. It is based on the idea of beef stew with multiple cuts of beef. Here I used veal belly, veal short ribs, and veal liver, plus a bunch of herbs and spices from my cupboard like Korean go chu jang and tarragon, ginger, and Vietnamese beef stew spice pack. Not bad! Wish I could find beef tripes and ox tails at Fresh Co. And a better camera.

I am so thankful that 12 years ago today this bright and beautiful little bundle of baby birdie goodness hatched into this world and eventually made his way to me, and subsequently into every recess of my heart. He may be small, but he packs so much joy, humor and sweetness into his 4 1/2-inch tall body, and shares it all, both with me, and others who love him too. I cannot believe he’s 12! To celebrate he got a big bath this morning, lots of neck scritches, cuddle time in my hair, a trip to the kitchen to whisper sweet nothings to his longtime love the garbage can, fresh spinach, some bites of a piece of popcorn, and for dessert he’ll be treated to vanilla yogurt.
