Good combination, Anon! Thanks for requesting this, and for your patience, here you go!
from this ask game
âHero, look at me,â Villain said in a soothing voice.
Hero wasnât listening. They were too busy staring at the gaping hole in their abdomen. Their breathing was short and labored; despite the pressure Villain was putting on their wound, Hero still felt blood seeping out of it.
âIâm gonna die,â Hero said, âoh gosh, Iâm going to die! Villain!â
âHey, hey,â Villain said, âshh, youâre not gonna die, I promise. I wonât let that happen. But you need to calm down. Take a deep breath.â
Hero tried to do as they were told, but the deep breath they tried to take turned into a shuddering cough, and they were back to hyperventilating.
âVillain, I donât wanna die,â Hero said, tears forming in their eyes, âI donât wanna die!â
A car, Villainâs car to be exact, screeched to a halt in front of the pair, and Sidekick jumped out. Sidekick and Villain exchanged words Hero couldnât hear, and looks Hero didnât see. Before they knew it, Villain scooped them up and deposited them across the backseats. Villain sat down on the floor of the car, still putting pressure on Heroâs wound.
âHospital?â Sidekick asked, already in the driverâs seat.
âNo!â Villain and Hero yelled in unison.
âTake us home,â Villain said, âweâll patch them up in the med bay.â
Hero was hyperventilating through all of this, and their vision was growing dark at the edges.
âHero, you gotta calm down,â Villain said softly.
âI canât!â
Within minutes, Sidekick pulled into the garage of Villainâs base. Villain carried Hero inside and laid them down on an operating table in the med bay.
âItâs gonna be okay,â Villain said, âMedic!â
Villainâs medic ran into the operating room.
âWhat happened?â Medic asked, âwhy are they here?â
âNot now,â Villain said urgently, âtheyâre bleeding out. Save them.â
Medic nodded, snapping on latex gloves. They came over to Hero.
âShhh,â Medic said, âyou need to calm down.â
âWhy does everyone keep saying that!?â Hero sobbed.
Medic whispered something to Villain as they prepped disinfectant, a needle, and surgical thread. Villain nodded and opened a drawer, procuring a syringe. Without warning, Villain injected the contents into Heroâs system. Hero nearly screamed from the sudden pinch.
Medic didnât wait for Hero to fall asleep, they got to work straight away, cleaning the wound and stitching it up.
Hero felt their body relax against their will.
âWhaâŚ?â
âShhh,â Villain said, running a hand through Heroâs hair, âyouâre gonna be okay. Just go to sleep.â
âWhat if-â Hero blinked heavily, â-what if I donât wake up?â
âYou will, I promise,â Villain said.
Hero didnât get the chance to nod. They drifted off just as Medic finished the last stitch.
âŚ
Hero stirred on a soft surface. Instead of the harsh fluorescent lights of the med bay, Hero opened their eyes to soft light and a plain ceiling. They were lying in a bed, somewhere in Villainâs base. They felt a weight on their hand and turned their head to see that Villain was holding it.
âHey,â Villain said, âhow are you feeling?â
Hero noticed Villainâs eyes were red and puffy, almost likeâŚ
âHave you been crying?â Hero asked quietly.
âNo,â Villain said quickly, âwell, maybe⌠a little.â
âWhy?â
Villain ran their thumb over Heroâs knuckles. It felt soothing to Hero, they almost fell back asleep. Villain speaking roused them from drifting back off.
âI was worried for you, thatâs all,â Villain said, âyou were so⌠afraid earlier, Iâd never seen you like that before.â
Villain was also scared Hero wouldnât wake up, but Hero certainly didnât need to know that.
Heroâs memories came flooding back, as though a dam in their brain had been destroyed. Tears sprung into Heroâs eyes as they remembered the stabbing, the car ride, the med bay, and how they were so afraid to go to sleep. Hero let out a high-pitched, choked sob.
âOh, HeroâŚâ
Villain climbed in the bed, sitting Hero up and holding them close from behind. Hero expected the movement to hurt, considering the state of their side, but they didnât feel anything except some dizziness when Villain sat them up.
âItâs okay,â Villain whispered, rubbing Heroâs back gently, âitâs all over now. Youâre okay.â
Hero nodded and leaned back into Villainâs chest, savoring their embrace. Hero looked up when they heard the door to the room open. Medic stood in the doorway with a syringe in hand.
âBoss, itâs almost time for more painkillers-â Medic looked up, â-oh. Well that certainly explains a lot.â
âY-yes, well,â Villain started, Hero had never heard them so flustered, âyou can administer the medicine now.â
Medic came over to Heroâs bedside. Villain gently took Heroâs arm and extended it in front of them. Heroâs breath hitched. They hated needles.
âBreathe,â Villain commanded softly, âitâs okay. Itâs gonna help you feel better.â
Medic took Heroâs arm and, upon finding a vein, injected the contents of the syringe into their system. Hero barely felt the pinch thanks to the last dose they had been given.
âThere, see?â Villain rubbed Heroâs arm, âall done.â
Hero closed their eyes, relaxing in Villainâs grip. They heard Medicâs footsteps echo across the room until they faded down the hall.
âThank you,â Hero said drowsily.
Hero felt Villain plant a soft kiss on their head.
âOf course, Hero.â
Hero drifted off in Villainâs arms, and Villain eventually followed suit. Elsewhere in the base, Medic and Sidekick chatted in hushed voices. How long had Hero and Villain been a thing?
