Whumpee whose muscles are constantly tense as a result of having have been in fight or flight (or freeze or fawn) mode for so long.
Whumpee who, at random times, realises how tense they are for seemingly no reason.
Whumpee who has to manually relax their body: laying down in a specific position, trying to focus on each limb one at a time.
Whumpee who can only relax their body when they’re asleep.
Whumpee who gets frustrated and agitated with their body resisting them, refusing to soften up even when they’re trying so hard.
Caretaker who understands Whumpees predicament and frustrations, softly massaging Whumpees muscles and drawing light circles into their skin with their fingertips to calm Whumpee down.

"I think I'd like an f/m hero x villain where one of them is pushing themselves to exhaustion and the other cares for them in spite of them with a hint of enemies to lovers?"
Happy birthday, Nat (@surplus-of-sarcasm)! Here’s your special snippet! I really really enjoyed writing it, and I hope it's to your liking!
“Well, well, look what the cat dragged in. A bit of frozen food.”
Hero rolled her eyes, not bothering to turn and look at the voice’s owner.
“Did you do this?” she demanded.
She kept her focus on the blaze in front of her. Her powers combined with the efforts of the firefighters should have been making short work of it. For some reason, however, her ice was barely making a dent in the flames. Her legs started shaking, but she kept pushing cryogenic force out from her core anyway.
An arm found itself on her shoulder, and she nearly collapsed from Villain’s sudden weight.
“As much as I like a good bit of chaos,” he said, examining his nails- which was interesting considering he was wearing gloves, “I can’t take the credit. Fire isn’t my style. Besides, I would never want to burn that pretty face.”
Hero’s visage turned pink, and not from the heat of the fire.
“Oh dear, looks like I’m burning it anyway,” Villain sighed, “what are we going to do with you, hm?”
Hero shook him off. It took a lot more effort than it should’ve, and it didn’t matter, because now his arm was around her other shoulder as he pulled her flush against his side.
His lips ghosted the shell of her ear.
“You’ve been working too hard.”
Hero was certain her knees were melting into ice slush. They threatened to buckle at any second.
Someone shouted her name- one of the firefighters, probably- but she couldn’t make out what they said.
“Captain agrees with me,” Villain said, “they’ve got this handled. We need to get you somewhere quiet and-”
“I. Am. Working!”
Hero’s last surge of power exploded out of her in a spiral of ice, dousing the flames and covering the building in a thin layer of frost.
Finally, her legs gave out from under her. She would have dropped to her knees had Villain not held her steady.
She was about to begrudgingly thank him for the support when he swept her up into a bridal carry.
“What do you think you’re doing!?” she demanded, “put me down!”
He ignored her protests. Her power was completely spent, and he knew it. He nodded to the fire brigade as he left the scene. Hero fought him the entire way, but her attempts were akin to a fly squirming in a spider’s web.
…
Hero must have dozed off and jerked awake at least five times before they arrived at a stately apartment building. Before she knew it, the doors of an elevator opened in front of her, and Villain carried her inside the penthouse on the top floor.
“It’s not a crime to fall asleep, you know,” Villain said.
Hero merely gave him the meanest scowl she could manage.
He brought her into the master bedroom, where he laid her down on a plush, soft bed. He turned for just a moment, which was when Hero sprang up to make a run for it. She barely made it two steps before Villain had pulled her flush against his chest.
“Where do you think you’re going? Not to keep working, I’m sure.”
She could feel his voice rumble through her body like a cat’s purr.
“I’m fine,” she argued, trying to elbow him in the gut.
He held her arms still.
“Really? I bet if we take that mask off, we’ll see circles that would rival a raccoon’s.”
He reached for her mask.
“Don’t touch my mask!”
She blew a puff of frost at his hand. What should have initiated the first stages of frostbite felt like a gentle summer’s breeze. Villain chuckled, sending another vibration through Hero’s bones. He peeled off the mask and turned her to face him.
“Just as I suspected,” he said, “you’re exhausted.”
“You say that like you haven’t been directly contributing to my workload,” Hero snapped.
“I’ve been trying to get you to take a break. Why do you think every fight between us has been a kidnapping attempt instead of an actual crime?”
“Kidnapping is an actual crime!”
She brought her knee up, then slammed it back down, but before she could stomp on his foot, she lost her balance. Once again, she was only vertical because of Villain’s intervention.
“You need to rest,” he said, “you take care of this entire, ungrateful city. Let me take care of you.”
He gently but firmly manhandled her into the bed. By this time, Hero was too tired to climb back out. He draped a blanket over her, pulling it up to her chin and tucking it around her.
“I can’t sleep,” Hero said quietly.
“I can help you,” Villain said, sitting on the edge of the bed.
He carded his hand through her hair.
“After this, we’ll get you in the tub. Then I’m making you something to eat. I’m willing to bet [Museum Name’s] gemstone collection that you haven’t been feeding yourself, either. Am I right?”
“Did you steal the museum’s gemstones!?” Hero exclaimed through a yawn.
“Figure of speech, sweetheart,” he said, “but hey, if you don’t cooperate with me just a little bit here, I might make it literal.”
Hero’s eyes fought to stay open. With every blink, sleep tugged at her a little harder. Between a moment and an eternity, she finally let it take her, Villain still at her side. She wouldn’t wake for another twelve hours, but when she did, it would be to a hearty dinner on the nightstand and a fizzing bubble bath in the next room.
Whumpee won't come out from under the bed, no matter how many times Caretaker whispers to them that they're safe now. Caretaker's real dog comes in the room out of curiosity. Whumpee softens at the sight of the dog because it's a pet like them. They end up befriending the dog and Caretaker walks in one day to see the two curled up at the edge of the bed. As much as Caretaker would prefer Whumpee to sleep at the top of the bed, they have to admit that it's adorable.
When whumpee falls asleep on caretakers lap and caretaker stays until whumpee wakes up. They refuse to wake up their friend. They've been through so much, they deserve to rest.
There's something I really like about characters being taken care of for pretty normal, mundane accidents (well, much more mundane than most whump on tumblr).
A character drops a glass in the kitchen and they thought they swept up all the broken pieces, but hours later they step on a big shard. Their partner rushes to their aid, helping them to the sofa to carefully remove the glass and bandage up the deep cut left behind. They dote on them for the rest of the day, bringing them things and making sure they're resting, insisting that they don't walk on the injury for a day or two.
A character hits their head hard on something, and their partner immediately makes sure that the injury isn't serious and they check for a concussion. Once they know for sure that the character will be fine, they still let them take it super easy, promising to kiss it all better.
A character trips and falls in the hallway, twisting their ankle, and their partner insists on carrying them the rest of the way to wherever they need to go.
A skater takes a really nasty fall at the park and one of their friends calls the character's partner. They immediately rush over, gently carrying the protesting character to the car. Once they're both home, they give them a harsh talking-to about wearing protective gear and being less reckless, all while tenderly bandaging everything up. After all that tough love, they bring the character to bed and take care of them until everything is fully healed.

Whumpee feeling really sick or being in a lot of pain, and they're scared or just in general need of comfort. They can't quite reach caretaker from where they're laying though, so they just whisper something trying to get caretaker's attention. It works, and they look down, "Do you need something, whumpee?"
And they rasp, "hand," with tears in their eyes.
Caretaker feels their heart ache, "of course." And gently take their hand.

Been watching a lot of pet reunion videos today and just think:
Whumpee being brought home after being rescued or hospitalized for a long time. Their pet(s) have been taken care of by friends or family while they haven't been around. Just... coming home to pure unconditional love and happiness after so long.
(Bonus points if it's a former pet-human whumpee)
Mostly thinking cats and/or dogs here, but I know other animals also react happily to loved ones coming home after a long absence.
