Think I experienced a microagression the other day while getting my hair cutā¦
For context, my hair had been growing out a while, it was down to my shoulders before it was cut (mostly because I couldnāt decide on a haircut). I decided to start fresh with a buzz cut, I figured that would be easier to dye at home and I had hoped that maybe it would help me pass better. When I told the hair stylist I wanted a buzzcut she was like āand WHY are you doing this šā like girl I know you donāt ask the cis men who come in and ask to get their hair real short the type of thing you just asked me⦠come on
AND THEN she literally lied to my face about how short she was cutting it. I told her leave half an inch/āa 4ā in hair cutting terms (according to her) and she repeatedly kept asking me āare you SURE about thisā (before and while actively cutting my hair) but even after I kept telling her, yes this is the thing I asked for and I havenāt changed my mind, she made it longer than I asked for, which I didnāt find out until later when I went to my friendās house and they offered to shape up my hair for me since she had obviously missed a BUNCH of spots and they used a 4 on their razor and it was already longer than that around my ENTIRE head, so in order to get the length I had originally asked for my friend had to shave around my entire head, and like at LEAST half an inch of hair came off (all over) when they did. Meaning, she didnāt use the length she said she did and just actually fucking lied about it. What the fuck. Cisgender stylists be normal about trans clients challenge??? (Impossible)
Gender conforming cis people will really just see a visibly GNC person they donāt even know on a personal level and assume that they must Know Whatās Best For Us better than we do ourselves, because to them, theyāre Doing Gender Right and we are not. Itās so so fucking weird. This isnāt even close to the first time Iāve had stuff like this happen while getting my hair cut by a stranger either.
