“If that’s the case, then you need to get some better friends.” Seriously, Hawkeye was right to be wary of him. Jason wasn’t exactly the most stable person around, and he had more issues than Vogue. “Seriously, are we just ignoring the murdering and crime-lording, now? And the fact that you don’t actually know who I even am? I could be the Zodiac Killer, for all you know.” Because, unlike her, he actually had a secret identity. Kept his face hidden beneath a helmet, whenever he joined in on one of the Young Avengers’ team-ups.

Not that the Red Hood was actually a Young Avenger. He’d never accepted that offer, turned it down every time it was made, because while he might be crazy, he wasn’t deluded. He knew he wasn’t the right fit for a team like that. Bad enough the were seen working with a criminal, once in a while. That could at least be chalked up to the Red Hood not wanting the world to end because he lived there. Adding someone like him on as an active team member would tank people’s trust in the Young Avengers. Jason might not be a good guy, but he could see how much good they did. They’d have a much harder time doing that if people didn’t believe in them. “Come on, Kate, you can’t be that bad a judge of character.”

The girl in purple with the strange-looking weapon (a curved stick with string connecting both ends, and more smaller, sharp sticks to go with it) was tied to a chair. Captured. Purple Girl was still talking, pretending to be brave, but the weapon could see the worried, nervous, scared behind all the words. Could read the hurt in the way she held herself—she’d been injured, but was hiding how bad, not wanting her captors to know.

She needed help, and the weapon didn’t know if help was coming, or, if they were, if they’d make it there on time. Because the men with Purple Girl were angry, impatient, annoyed. Getting closer to hurting Purple Girl more, the more she talked. They had their own weapons, too; the small, loud ones that fit in hands and made holes in bodies. Purple Girl didn’t have any way to defend herself.

It wasn’t difficult to dispatch of the men. There were only eight, after all—the weapon had been trained to fight many more than that, at once—and she was able to pick most of them off one by one, while sneaking through the shadows, before the remaining four realized something was wrong. The fight with them was barely a fight at all. It certainly wasn’t anything difficult; the men didn’t get the chance to use their loud weapons, and she wasn’t even out of breath by the time they were all on the ground, unmoving (she’d checked and they were all still breathing, still alive, just sleeping-but-not).

“No I just-I might not be able to make it for the whole thing, something came up with Lucas' sister and he needs to leave early to watch his nephew. If I can't find coverage I'll have to go into the bar.” And now he'll have to tell his bartender Lucas that if asked his sister needed him to watch his nephew. Great, Peter hated the lack of control over the situation that gave him.
