ima just give my rating here as to not waste anyone’s time; SUPERGIRL(2026) 6/10 (Not great but not terrible either)

I hate lobo in this movie. He does nothing but take away from Kara and Ruthye. I deadass saw someone say “Lobo is supposed to be Ruthye’s devil on her shoulder!” Like uhm no, Ruth is her own devil because she’s grieving little girl in a suicide mission. Lobo does nothing but add plot convenience and jokes that I personally did not care for.

The handling of sex traficking in this movie confuses me. Like, it’s obvious a big problem it’s kinda the leading reason for Ruthye but not for Kara. Not to say Kara is okay with it, she’s not, but it’s also not something she’s really shown to care about? I think it can work for some people but for me? It didn’t work for me. You can’t just add an element of that and just brush it over, like it’s very clear both Ruthye and Kara are after krem for selfish reasons. Him being a sex trafficker pedophile doesn’t feel like a very big thing for what it actually is.

‘What the movie does well is with Kara’s backstory, the survivors guilt hits really hard and you truly do understand why she chooses such a self harming vice through alcohol (or well kinda self harming but not rlly). I like her quips on the occasion but I wish her and Ruthye has more heart to heart moments. Maybe it’s just me but I had a hard time seeing if Kara really does care about Ruthye. Like she clearly states that killing won’t help her so she clearly cares about her mental state but she also will randomly abandon this naive vulnerable child. I’m not expecting Kara to mother bird Ruthye but I would have liked to see more scenes of the two getting along.

Ruthye should have done more in this film. She should have fought more because it felt like she was just standing there reacting to what Kara was doing 90% of the time. Personally I rlly like Ruthye as a character, but that’s because I’m a sucker for truamatized characters looking for vengeance. At first I did not like nor understand why Kara was telling Ruthye to not kill Kerm until someone pointed out “probably because she doesn’t want the little girl to go through more trauma of taking a life.” Which like, fair, still didn’t like it though. (And I will admit I missed part of the ending about Ruthye telling Kara how she’s already damaged or sm bc I just could not stop laughing at that horrible pin drop during the semi-final battle. Seriously, just a terrible choice when she should have had her own dramatic theme!)

also before I forget the scene of Kara leaving the planet after her argument with ruthye to scream into the void DID GO HARD (thought I needed to add this bc maybe I’m being too negative idk it’s my opinion)

the way music was implemented into this movie genuinely annoyed me. Like I didn’t mind the first few needle drop fights with famous English songs but like, we’re in SPACE! Why not have the bar singer IN SPACE who is an ALIEN sing that sing in a different language?? That would’ve been rlly fun.
