she's not much of a people person. people are just a part of Work, and it’s work that she likes most. being busy--not just getting busy--feels good. anjyu tells her "i don’t think i should introduce you to most people i know” and she goes "good, i don’t want to meet 'em."

anjyu met her during his time on the road a while back, they knew each other for a time and got along well, which stands out in nnoi’s memory because she is Not someone who gets along with anyone. she thought anjyu was a real neat and kind fellow. weird, but good. he just,,,,, keeps ending up befriending legitimately dangerous people in the most casual ways. that's just his brand

she left the area before he did, which is unusual for folks he would get to know through working and such--usually he's the one he moves on and continues traveling first. he asked her if she had any plans for what to do next, or where she was going. she said, partly teasing, "no. dunno. just can’t seem to find the job i want to be doing. if you ever happen to find it, you let me know."

And Anjyu Took That Extremely Literally

after he’s at the point in his journey where he becomes able to take on retainers, he doesn’t actually do it, because he can’t think of anyone he knows who’s good with that kind of thing and who he trusts for that kind of job. it’s too stressful to think about, anyways. he puts it off as much as he can, even if he's starting to get buried in things he needs to store and sort out, etc etc

he catches some rumours about an incident where someone was apparently poisoned and robbed after some kind of escort encounter, and from the associated descriptors and details, he was like "huh, that sounds like someone i used to know. that really reminds me of a lot of them. whoever did the crime, not the victim”

so he scrounges up resources to track down whoever did it. not to turn them in or anything, gods no. to hire them for that whole retainer business he needs to get to. since they’re an old friend.
