📖 S Y N O P S I S : Enjoy my ramblings of the Scouts. Isayama was honestly cooking with their character designs and I am STILL pissed that they're all dead. I N C L U D E S : Vet Trio + OG Levi Squad, Nifa, Miche, Nanaba and Gelgar !

SCENTS 🌷

--- Since I found out Nanaba is apparently the best smelling of the Scouts (according to Miche at least), been thinking of how the others smell (is that weird??).

--- SMELL GOOD NATURALLY - Nifa, Petra, Eld and Erwin --- SMELL GOOD ARTIFICIALLY - Levi, Moblit, Oruo, Gelgar --- OTHERS - Hange canonically doesn't take baths unless Levi forces them so they kinda stink 💀. I imagine Gunther doesn't have any particular smell. He doesn't stink like shit, but he isn't all flowers either.

---Sort of an attachment to the last one, but Nifa probably smells like flowers, or something floral. Petra smells 'sweet' somehow, Eld has the sort of smell that'd be strangely comforting, and Erwin smells like whatever soap he uses.

--- Levi uses a somewhat intense amount of cologne (gurl same), Moblit smells woodsy (almost all the Scouts have a sort of woodsy smell, Moblit just smells the best and is most prominent), with some charcoal mixed in because of his drawings. Oruo and Gelgar use some type of perfume, though sparingly.

Hange smells like shit, but also has a unique 'burning' scent. They're a scientist, and I imagine aside from titan traps and experiments, they'll be working with a lot of chemicals too.

ACADEMICS 📖

--- Based on academics, Hange's squad no doubt places first. To be more specific, here's ranking overall : Hange, Erwin, Moblit, Nifa, Miche, Oruo, Gelgar, Eld, Levi, then Gunther. Gunther's not dumb, just not as smart as everyone else.

--- Levi placing second to last I imagine is just because of his upbringing. Oruo, Gelgar and Eld received formal educations, so their knowledge in overall topics is better. In a modern AU, Levi would be more studious given he actually has the opportunity to be, and would place right below Nifa.

--- Hange of course loves Biology the most. Erwin is just that one smart, popular kid at school. Moblit is good at mostly everything, but favors Geology, he hates Math and Chem tho lmao. Nifa on the other hand loves Chem, and has dabbled in some Psychology books. Definitely psychoanalyzes people a bit. Maybe Moblit too though he's a bit more embarrassed about it.

HOBBIES 🌷

--- Hange, aside from reading and studying, likes to make little contraptions, they don't really do anything, but are cute and displayed at their office.

--- Levi ofc cleans, but picked up reading and writing after becoming a scout. Reading is a secret past time of his, and his favorite genre is probably nonfiction. I can see him reading a little, grounded fantasy (like ASOIAF), but not romance or YA. Very obscure books too, but it's not always on purpose, he just chooses the book with the most interesting summary to him. He is adored by librarians.

--- Erwin reads too, big surprise. As a kid, he favored textbooks instead of usual literature, and aside from reading, he plays piano. Not very often though, and though he's good, it's not exactly his passion.

--- Moblit, aside from drawing, loves to paint and write. I imagine him to be very much of an artsy kid, but science is more of his passion. If it weren't, he'd be a painter.

--- Nifa writes poems, and is a bit of a hopeless romantic. She's also very much a reader, though unlike Levi, her tastes are more fantasy and romance. Knights, soulmates, etc., etc., that's her jam.

--- Nanaba wood chops. Idk why, but i can just imagine her chopping wood as a way to destress. Before and after a mission. It's her own little stress reliever. Gelgar might come and pick on her a bit about it while gathering the wood himself.

MISC 🌷

- Based on that one panel, Nifa, Gelgar, Nanaba, Petra, Oruo, Eld and Gunther all joined the Scouts after the fall.

Gelgar joined a couple months after (THE FALL), same batch as Eld and Gunther but not the same Cadet Corps division.

Nifa came a couple months after that, then came Petra and Oruo. - Nifa became best friends with Ilse after joining with her (Ilse) joining couple months before the Fall.

“Excuse me… You’re with the Survey Corps’ Fourth Squad, are you not?”

Stohess District, inside Wall Sheena.

Nifa and the others had found themselves with a short respite as top members of the Survey Corps and their aides attended a meeting, and so they’d gone to a bar.

“I’ve been asked to give you these drinks.”

The storeowner had read the soldiers’ affiliation off of their chests and now offered them an amber liquid with red fruit on the side.

“Who’s it from?”

“I’m unsure of that. They wore a cap low over their eyes, and I couldn’t make out their body from under their jacket…”

A paper coaster sat underneath the glass, and when one of Nifa’s fellow corpsmen noticed the words written on it, his eyes grew wide.

“Hold on, is this a roundabout advance or something?!”

“Don’t be ridiculous… There’s no way.”

[Sheena’s protection ticks on. At the feet of earth and fire, the grass-eating horses draw a triangle of two and five. Whisper to them a beautiful snow.]

Cage, another member of the Fourth, looked at the words on the coaster and scowled.

“…I don’t get it.”

“It’s like a poem or something, but…”

The rest of the Fourth looked at it, just as confused.

When Nifa happened to notice that some words on the coaster were intentionally thin, while others were thick and powerful, she sighed.

“…Sorry, but this doesn’t seem to be what any of you think.”

Cage furrowed his brow at this.

“Then could it be…”

“A message from Hange. Straight back to work after this drink.”

The group gave a resigned shrug as they put down the drinks they’d just been so lucky to receive.

“You know… I guess I should check this.”

Here and there, ink had seeped through the coaster to become visible on the other side. When Nifa connected these dots, she found a message to be deciphered.

[Receive 1800]

“I knew it…”

“Hange is in that meeting with the brass right now, so they must not be able to receive this order.”

“Vice Captain Moblit must have suggested that we take a break at a bar so that he could send us on an errand…”

Nifa’s fellow squad members looked around at each other as they realized that even this precious breather was all a part of a job.

“Commander-in-Chief Zackly and royal government officials were in that meeting… these are probably materials for some new weapon.”

“And the location is hidden in this poem?”

Cage let out another sigh as he turned the coaster back over. Everyone nodded, then looked at the clock.

“What do you want?”

They had come to one of the many stables lined up underneath the brick clocktower. A man likely sent by a merchant who wore the near-exact shade of amber as their drink stood there at the specified time, eating a red fruit.

“Sheena’s protection ticking on” must have meant “a clocktower in Stohess District,” while “earth and fire” meant it would be built from bricks of baked earth. “Grass-eating horses” referred to the location, the stables found underneath. All that was left was…

“A beautiful snow.”

“Follow me.”

The password was as the poem said, word-for-word.

The individual there showed no sign of suspicion toward Nifa and the rest of her squad who had changed out of their military uniform to disguise themselves. He only showed them to a horse cart with a cargo wagon attached.

“I bet the experiments will begin as soon as we take this back to our quarters…”

“Heh… Yeah, they do know how to work us hard.”

Even so, this was just an average day for soldiers under Hange. They joked as they quietly boarded the cart and brought it back to their quarters.
