The Rosette Nebula (Caldwell 49) in narrowband false color (SHO/Hubble palette).
The Rosette is an emission nebula (a cloud of ionized gas emitting light) in the Monoceros constellation, notable for having an open cluster of young stars (NGC 2244) at its center, formed from the gases of the nebula.
Shot with a 440mm effective focal length Newtonian telescope at a focal ratio of f/2.93, with roughly five hours of total integration time (1 hour of Ha and roughly 2 hours each of OIII and SII, exposure length varying from 3 to 5 minutes). Captured with an ASI533MM Pro camera.
Processed with SiriL, Starnet, and GIMP. Support free software.
Rosette Nebula - NGC 2244 It has been a while since I have taken any new data (that will change soon), but I found an image I took that I had not posted before. All of my previous Rosette Nebula data was taken with the Meade 80mm Triplet, but this was taken with the Radian Raptor 61. I only got 90 min worth of data on the target, and it was more of a test to see what field of view I could get with the raptor. Due to issues with my previous laptop, I was never able to get any more data. . Fox Fur, Unicorn, and Christmas Tree by Daniele Malleo Via Flickr: Clouds of glowing hydrogen gas fill this colorful skyscape in the faint but fanciful constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn. A star forming region cataloged as NGC 2264, the complex jumble of cosmic gas and dust is about 2,700 light-years distant and mixes reddish emission nebulae excited by energetic light from newborn stars with dark interstellar dust clouds. Where the otherwise obscuring dust clouds lie close to the hot, young stars they also reflect starlight, forming blue reflection nebulae. This image cover nearly 1.5 full moons, covering 40 light-years at the distance of NGC 2264. Its cast of cosmic characters includes the the Fox Fur Nebula, whose dusty, convoluted pelt lies just below the center, bright variable star S Monocerotis immersed in the blue-tinted haze over the Fox Fur, and the Cone Nebula pointing to the middle from the left of the frame. Of course, the stars of NGC 2264 are also known as the Christmas Tree star cluster. The triangular tree shape traced by the stars has its apex at the Cone Nebula.[description from NASA APOD] Data captured in Dec 2016 from SRO in California Total exposure time: 29.5 hours. Rosette Nebula - NGV 2244 This is a full restack and process of my largest project to date, 11.5 hours total taken in January, 2021. . Over the past six months, my image processing has evolved greatly, eith a more streamlined workflow plus some new techniques. I decided to go back and have another go at this data because I knew the data was pretty good, its the most I have on one target, and I knew I would habe cloudy days at some point! . 11.5 hours - 10.5 hours L-eNhanced - 1 hour L-Pro Dark, flat, dark flat & bias frames 800 ISO - Bortle 8 .
